Position Summary

The IRB Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership, administrative management, and regulatory oversight of the Institutional Review Board at Morehouse School of Medicine. This role ensures the protection of human research participants and supports researchers by ensuring compliance with federal regulations, ethical standards, and institutional policies. The IRB Director also guides and educates faculty, staff, and IRB members on human subjects research compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Oversight and Compliance
    • Direct all IRB operations to ensure research projects comply with federal regulations (e.g., DHHS, FDA) and institutional policies.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for the IRB to safeguard the rights and welfare of research participants.
    • Act as the institutional authority on ethical issues and regulatory compliance related to human subjects research.
  2. IRB Management and Leadership
    • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the IRB office, including hiring, training, and managing IRB staff.
    • Plan and conduct regular IRB meetings, providing expert guidance on complex ethical and regulatory issues.
    • Oversee protocol reviews, modifications, and renewals, ensuring thorough and timely assessment of each project.
  3. Policy Development and Implementation
    • Establish and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the IRB
    • Lead the development of institutional policies related to human research protections and compliance.
  4. Training and Education
