Description:

Ranger Field Services is seeking an HSE Specialist to serve as a hands-on, field-based safety leader supporting crews working on electrical power systems.

This role is primarily field based, working alongside field crews to ensure work is properly planned, executed safely, and risks are actively managed in real time. The HSE Specialist will partner closely with operations, utility clients, and leadership to protect employees while supporting productivity and project success.

Responsibilities:

Provide direct, on-site HSE leadership and support to field crews, including conducting real-time observations and providing coaching to promote safe work practices.

Challenge or stop unsafe work activities when necessary and support daily safety discussions, including Plan of the Day (POD) meetings, tailboards, and job briefings.

Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and applicable utility standards, while monitoring high-risk work activities such as switching and clearances, lockout/tagout (LOTO), grounding and bonding, and energized versus de-energized work.

Review and support job safety analyses (JSAs) and pre-task plans, verifying that hazards are identified and appropriate controls are in place prior to work execution.

Support energized work permitting processes and ensure proper controls are followed in the field.

Investigate electrical incidents, high-energy events, and near misses, identifying root causes and driving corrective and preventive actions.

Track and analyze safety observations, near misses, and overall performance trends to support continuous improvement.

Support the development and enhancement of electrical safety programs and field practices, including auditing grounding methods, temporary protection systems, and barricading or work zone setups.

Collaborate with operations and field leadership to promote continuous improvement while maintaining productivity.

Support switching and outage activities and coordinate with utility clients, system operators, and owner representatives as needed.

Partner with field leadership to resolve safety challenges and ensure work progresses efficiently and safely.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

A minimum of 7 years of HSE experience within electrical, utility, or power systems environments.

Experience supporting high-voltage systems and energized work activities.

Strong working knowledge of transmission and distribution systems, including switching, grounding, and clearance requirements.

Understanding of energized versus de-energized work practices, arc flash and arc blast hazards, induced voltage hazards, and step and touch potential hazards.

Thorough knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.269, OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart V, and NFPA 70E standards.

Familiarity with utility safety standards, switching procedures, and lockout/tagout coordination practices.

Strong ability to work in field-driven environments and influence safe behaviors.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to build trust with field teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

OSHA 30 certification required.

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification preferred.
