HPC Azure Engineer

About the role:

We are seeking an experienced HPC Azure Engineer to design, deploy, optimize, and support High-Performance Computing (HPC) solutions within Microsoft Azure. This role combines deep cloud infrastructure expertise with HPC technologies to help customers accelerate engineering, scientific, AI/ML, rendering, financial modeling, and simulation workloads in Azure.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Azure infrastructure, networking, automation, Linux administration, and HPC technologies such as Azure CycleCloud, Azure Batch, Slurm, or similar hardirectly with customers to architect scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Azure & HPC Architecture
  • Design and implement Azure-based HPC environments and hybrid cloud solutions.
  • Deploy and manage Azure CycleCloud, Azure Batch, and HPC clusters.
  • Architect highly available and scalable compute, storage, and networking solutions.
  • Design solutions utilizing Azure Virtual Machines, HPC VM families, Azure NetApp Files, Azure Blob Storage, and high-performance storage architectures.
  • Develop solutions for burst-to-cloud and hybrid HPC workloads.

Cloud Engineering & Operations
  • Configure and support Azure Virtual Networks, VPNs, ExpressRoute, NSGs, Load Balancers, and DNS services.
  • Implement Azure Site Recovery (ASR), backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
  • Monitor and optimize Azure workloads for performance, reliability, and cost management.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure, application, networking, and performance issues.
  • Configure identity solutions utilizing Entra ID (Azure AD) and hybrid identity services.

Automation & Infrastructure as Code
  • Automate deployments using Terraform, Bicep, ARM Templates, or similar tools.
  • Develop PowerShell, Bash, Python, or Ansible automation solutions.
  • Standardize deployment processes and operational procedures.

Customer Engagement
  • Lead customer discovery sessions and technical design workshops.
  • Gather requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Provide architecture recommendations and best practices.
  • Deliver technical documentation, diagrams, and knowledge transfer sessions.
  • Support project implementations and post-deployment operations.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement
  • Maintain project documentation and operational runbooks.
  • Develop support procedures and technical standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve performance, automation, and operational efficiency.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting Microsoft Azure infrastructure.
  • 3+ years of experience with HPC environments or large-scale compute workloads.
  • Experience deploying and managing Azure networking services.
  • Strong understanding of Azure compute, storage, virtualization, and security services.
  • Experience with Linux administration (Red Hat, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, CentOS, etc.).
  • Experience with scripting and automation technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer-facing consulting experience.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Azure CycleCloud experience.
  • Azure Batch experience.
  • Slurm, PBS Pro, LSF, or similar scheduler experience.
  • Experience supporting engineering simulation workloads such as ANSYS, Fluent, Abaqus, STAR-CCM+, or Altair solutions.
  • Experience with AI, Machine Learning, or GPU-based computing.
  • Experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).
  • Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform or Bicep.
  • Experience with Chef, Ansible, or similar configuration management tools.
  • Experience deploying Azure Fortinet or other cloud security appliances.
