About the TeamThe GM will directly lead a group of dedicated product professionals in the development of this business across North America, EMEA, and APAC. The team will include dedicated dotted line engineering capacity from across Workday's technology organization, forming a full virtual P&L. The GM will be responsible to work across Workday functions to design and deliver customer centric products and increase Workday's market share.
About the RoleThe General Manager, Spend ("GM") will be a member of Workday's Product and Technology organization with accountability for the P&L of the Workday Spend product suite, encompassing Travel, Expense, Procurement, and Contingent Labor. This leader will be tasked with developing and scaling the existing Spend business at Workday. The GM will be responsible for building a robust product strategy, go-to-market approach, and operational engine to transform Workday's Spend business from a collection of point solutions to a unified, independent pillar in and of itself. The GM will be responsible for optimizing earnings contribution relative to growth, thinking as an independent and cross functional leader of the business, and navigating a complex partner landscape.
Key Responsibilities- Product Strategy: Developing and driving a strategic product vision that addresses the complex needs of Workday's customers by delivering measurable value. Effectively inspiring and leading a team of product management executives utilizing product and customer requirements, developing use cases and applications for use in new and different industries.
- Product Management & Innovation: Fostering a culture of innovation while ensuring effective execution of both the short-and long-term product strategy that results in incremental revenue delivery for Workday. The GM will be responsible for transforming the position of Workday's existing business while rapidly growing the Spend suite, including Travel, Expense, Procurement, and Contingent Labor. The leader will be required to drive the AI transformation of the core product portfolio and the transition away from seat based licensing models.
- General Management:Creating business plans and quantitative business models (e.g. resource planning, revenue forecasting, go-to-market strategy, pricing and licensing).
- Market Leadership: Staying ahead of emerging trends and maintaining an in-depth knowledge of competing organizations' products in order to effectively position Workday as a thought leader and innovator. Leverage AI to monitor industry trends, analyze competitor offerings, and identify areas for differentiation.
- Customer Engagement:Working closely with customers and creating compelling user stories and case studies from existing ideas; bringing new product ideas to life based on industry experience and customer feedback and interaction. Use AI to analyze customer feedback and interactions, and to proactively identify customer needs and pain points.
- Roadmap Definition: Defining and articulating the Workday solutions product strategy, roadmap and the definition of market requirements in new industry and product segments. They will further define Workday's competitive differentiation, advantages and unique value proposition, and drive prioritization decisions around releases and updates.
- Public Visibility: Serving as the face of Product by representing and promoting Workday at internal and external industry events. Highlight Workday's AI capabilities and thought leadership in public presentations and events.
About YouThe successful candidate will have proven experience as a business savvy Product or Strategy executive with a
strong understanding of the Spend Management enterprise software segment (Travel, Expense, Sourcing, Procurement, and Contingent Labor) and also how AI is enabling software business growthThey will be an inspiring product visionary with a deep understanding of their customers and building and positioning products for optimal growth. They will be passionate about building high quality enterprise applications and be innovative in their ideas from a technical, process, and relations point of view. In addition, the ideal candidate will bring strong people leadership skills with the ability to mentor and enhance the leadership bench by fostering the existing culture while also being a champion of innovation, performance. and change management.
- 15+ years of experience leading product strategy, product development, product management, and general management (P&L).
- Deep understanding and experience building AI applications; including benefits and limitations
- Track record as a world-class strategist who understands how to find new and creative ways to apply existing solutions to new use cases and new markets.
- Proven experience as an innovative executive who has built and scaled successful products and product teams in a growth environment; a multi- dimensional thinker who operates not only on the basis of important past experiences but is also forward-thinking and creative with their strategy based on customer feedback and market developments.
- Ability to build and sustain excellent relationships cross-functionally and at multi-levels internally, and also with partners and customers.
- Demonstrated success leading a globally distributed, cross-functional technology organization in a high-growth enterprise SaaS company
- Track record of partnering with recruiting teams to attract, retain, and develop incredible product talent; experience building and scaling self- sustaining teams.
- Success in uncovering customer preferences and product differentiators in the market; experience running a vertical expansion strategy, to further build out Workday's vertical strategy by product line.
