JOB SUMMARY

The Director, Hardware Asset Management (HAM) is a senior, enterprise-wide leader responsible for defining and operationalizing a globally consistent hardware asset management program that governs the full lifecycle of physical IT assets across regions. This role spearheads global HAM strategy, governance, process standardization, and performance management to improve lifecycle visibility, optimize utilization and cost, reduce operational risk, and ensure audit readiness.

The Director, HAM leads a multidisciplinary, globally aligned team of hardware asset management subject matter experts and partners closely with Finance, Procurement, Information Security, Compliance, and Operations to deliver scalable, repeatable outcomes across distributed locations and asset populations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Global Program Ownership: Provide strategic and operational leadership for the global Hardware Asset Management program, ensuring alignment with enterprise IT, finance, procurement, and risk management objectives.
  • Governance & Compliance: Establish and enforce global HAM governance frameworks, policies, and controls that meet audit, regulatory, cybersecurity, and financial compliance requirements across regions.
  • Enterprise Lifecycle Management: Own the global lifecycle of hardware assets-from planning and acquisition through deployment, utilization, recovery, reuse, and retirement-ensuring data integrity and traceability throughout.
  • Process Standardization at Scale: Design and operationalize standardized HAM processes that are scalable, repeatable, and consistently adopted across geographically distributed locations.
  • IT Asset Disposition (ITAD): Direct global ITAD strategy and execution, including vendor oversight, secure data sanitization, environmentally responsible e-waste management, and compliance with regional regulations.
  • Stakeholder & Executive Engagement: Serve as the primary enterprise point of contact for hardware asset matters, advising senior leaders and supporting global initiatives such as device refresh programs, office expansions or closures, and mergers and acquisitions.
  • Technology Enablement: Partner with IT platform, infrastructure, and operations teams to enhance global asset tracking capabilities through automation, system integrations and discovery tools.
  • Reporting & Insights: Provide executive-level dashboards and insights that deliver global visibility into inventory accuracy, lifecycle status, cost recovery, utilization, and risk exposure.
  • People Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a global HAM leadership team and functional specialists, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.


CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in Hardware Asset Management or broader IT Asset Management roles.
  • 3+ years of experience leading asset management teams or a functional area, ideally in distributed or multi-region operations
  • Deep knowledge of asset lifecycle management, ITAD strategies, logistics, and warehousing operations
  • Experience using asset management tools and CMDB platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, Flexera, Lansweeper
  • Strong understanding of audit standards, regulatory compliance, and IT operational frameworks

Preferred:
  • Master's degree and/or certifications such as CHAMP, CITAM, CSAM, ITIL, or ISO/IEC 19770.
  • Experience operating in a global organization with distributed asset operations and vendors.
  • Background in data analytics, automation, and process optimization for asset tracking and lifecycle reporting
  • Familiarity with sustainability, ESG reporting, and circular IT strategies.
  • Proven experience managing vendor relationships for hardware logistics, warehousing, or ITAD partners.

Strategic Leadership and Governance
  • Define the global HAM strategy and multi-year roadmap aligned to enterprise IT, finance, procurement, and risk objectives.
  • Establish and maintain global HAM governance frameworks, decision rights, standards, and controls to ensure consistency across regions.
  • Lead and influence hardware asset financial planning processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and spend analysis, to enable informed governance, financial transparency, and cost optimization at scale.
  • Set measurable performance expectations (KPIs/SLAs) for lifecycle accuracy, inventory integrity, and disposition outcomes, and ensure enterprise adoption.
  • Ensure alignment to organizational IT Asset Management policy and standards, including hardware and software standards that form the broader ITAM policy framework.

Operational Excellence & Process Implementation
  • Build and operationalize standardized HAM processes globally to enable scalable execution across distributed locations, stockrooms, and support models.
  • Drive inventory integrity through physical and logical reconciliation practices, tagging standards, and governance of warehouse/stockroom operations across regions.
  • Improve end-to-end lifecycle visibility to reduce shrinkage, optimize inventory levels, and minimize underutilization through measurable process controls and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with platform and operations teams to enhance lifecycle workflows (request/receive/deploy/support/reclaim/dispose) and ensure consistent data onboarding and status management.

Lifecycle & Disposition Management
  • Own the full global lifecycle of IT hardware from acquisition through retirement, ensuring consistent lifecycle definitions, milestones, and traceability.
  • Direct secure, compliant IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) execution globally, including vendor oversight, e-waste handling, and verified data sanitization practices.
  • Track and optimize asset recovery and reuse outcomes, including cost avoidance, redeployment, and recovery value to maximize ROI while reducing environmental impact.

Managing Work, Projects and Policies
  • Lead global program planning and execution across priorities such as lifecycle standardization, stockroom governance, tool/process modernization, and major enterprise initiatives impacting hardware assets
  • Establish and maintain policy-aligned procedures that govern asset handling, traceability, and compliance requirements, ensuring they are implemented consistently across regions.
  • Provide program-level oversight for platform changes impacting HAM processes (e.g., workflow updates, data migrations, integrations), ensuring governance and operational readiness.

Team Building and Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary HAM organization, including functional leads and specialists responsible for lifecycle operations, architecture, and disposition outcomes.
  • Build a culture of accountability, operational rigor, and innovation; establish training and upskilling plans to sustain global capability and industry alignment.
  • Provide clear direction, performance expectations, and career development pathways for HAM roles and regional stakeholders supporting global execution.
