About the Role

As a Field Application Engineer, you'll play a key role in ensuring our robots are successfully deployed, maintained, and supported throughout their lifecycle.

This is a highly hands-on position that combines customer-facing field work with in-house technical operations. You'll travel to customer sites to deploy robots, train operators, troubleshoot technical issues, and provide ongoing support, while also helping maintain our internal robot fleet, prepare robots for shipment, perform repairs, and support product testing in our San Francisco office.

You'll work closely with R&D, and Sales teams, serving as the bridge between our customers and our product.

What You'll Do

  • Deploy, configure, test, and troubleshoot Civ robotic systems at customer sites.
  • Train customers on robot operation, maintenance, software workflows, and best practices.
  • Provide remote and on-site technical support to customers, diagnosing hardware, software, and operational issues.
  • Travel throughout the U.S. and internationally to support deployments, training, and customer success.
  • Prepare, inspect, calibrate, and validate robots before shipment and customer deployment.
  • Perform routine maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and quality checks on Civ's internal robot fleet.
  • Assemble, repair, and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical components, including wiring, sensors, batteries, motors, and related hardware.
  • Support engineering with product testing, validation, prototype evaluation, and new feature verification.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory, repair records, and service documentation.
  • Document customer issues, troubleshooting procedures, and field learnings to improve internal knowledge and training materials.
  • Collect customer feedback and communicate product improvement opportunities to Engineering and Product teams.
  • Help improve deployment processes, service procedures, and technical documentation.


What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in robotics, field applications, technical support, hardware support, autonomous systems, drones, mechatronics, or similar hands-on technical roles.
  • Experience working directly with customers in technical support, deployment, training, or field service environments.
  • Hands-on experience with robotics, electronics, wiring, sensors, batteries, motors, mechanical assemblies, and system troubleshooting.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, electrical, mechanical, and basic software issues.
  • Experience assembling, repairing, maintaining, or testing complex technical equipment.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools, firmware updates, software logs, or basic debugging.
  • Experience with ROS, Linux, Git, or scripting is a plus.
  • Experience with GNSS/GPS, construction technology, surveying, autonomous vehicles, or drones is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical users.
  • Comfortable working independently in the field while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in managing equipment, repairs, and documentation.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for customer deployments.
  • Valid driver's license.
