Position: Fabrication & Paint Manager

Division: Operations

Department: Ops Support
Status: Full-Time

The Fabrication & Paint Manager has a strategic role with the primary responsibility of planning, executing, and finalizing projects according to strict deadlines and within budget, while also providing direct oversight of the project-specific manufacturing team. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants to deliver projects according to plan: On Time, on Budget and On Quality.

Additionally, this position manages and oversees the functions of the Fabrication department (CNC / Welding), the Paint department, and Assembly Sub-cell.

This role requires strong communication and leadership skills to coordinate and collaborate with internal stakeholders. The Fabrication & Paint Manager will create and execute project work plans to meet changing needs and requirements. Additionally, this position will manage the day-to-day operational aspects of projects and scope by practicing effective time management, execution, and leadership.

Essential Functions / Responsibility:

General Responsibilities:
  • Provide business and technical leadership necessary to ensure both production and the organization meet/exceed goals in delivering our products on time, on budget and on quality. Develop and manage specific goals and plans for the team to prioritize, organize, and execute each project.
  • Manage team leads in the production department and coordinate with other departments (Sales, Engineering, Purchasing, HR, etc.) to meet operational goals and ensure project completion. Develop a vision to drive team performance based upon production metrics and culture enhancement.
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion. Define project success criteria and disseminate to the stakeholders throughout the project's life cycle.
  • Drive continuous improvement and total employee involvement in critical success areas by empowering leaders and employees to utilize Lean Manufacturing tools and processes. Obtain an in-depth understanding of technical manufacturing processes and ensure that teams are progressively developing technical expertise.
  • Manage the process of innovative change and project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans effectively. Develop strategies that allow the team to be nimble and responsive to short notice changes in the schedule.
  • Effectively manage and develop direct reports to ensure that all employees have the necessary tools the effectively complete their work.
  • Promote and ensure quality at all levels by collaborating with direct reports, enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Ensure project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately. Conduct project debriefs and create a recommendations report to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
  • Responsible for scheduling & estimating additions, modifications, and small projects.
  • Work closely with Human Resources as an integral part of the hiring process.
  • Ensure workplace safety and governance over general environmental concerns.
  • Other duties as required.

Fabrication Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the Fabrication Department, including assigning tasks, overseeing workflow, and ensuring efficient operation.
  • Supervise, coach, and mentor a team of Welder/Fabricators, fostering a positive team environment and promoting growth and development within the department.
  • Ensure adherence to production schedules and meet on-time delivery commitments for Nomad products in alignment with client and company deadlines.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering team to continuously evaluate and improve fabrication processes, focusing on enhancing build efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure that all fabricated products meet Nomad's rigorous quality standards before shipment.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain Management to maintain inventory accuracy and ensure timely receipt of materials necessary for production.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations for team members, set goals, provide constructive feedback, and foster a collaborative and safe work environment.
  • Oversee department scheduling and resource allocation to ensure optimum utilization of personnel and equipment.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce production bottlenecks and drive continuous improvement across fabrication operations.
  • Maintain compliance with safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the department.


Paint Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Paint Team to ensure projects are completed on schedule.
  • Ensure that all Paint Team Members are trained, engaged, and managed effectively through performance, talent, and skill development processes.
  • Ensure that improvements are made in Paint processes, metrics tracked, and Paint deadlines are met with the end result of producing a quality product.


Manufacturing Cell:
  • Lead the Manufacturing Cell Team to ensure components and projects are completed on schedule.
  • Ensure that all Manufacturing Cell Team Members are trained, engaged and managed effectively through performance, talent, and skill development processes.
  • Ensure that applicable work instructions and drawings are utilized for manufacturing components.
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure that all components manufactured in the cell meet Nomad's rigorous quality standards before shipment.


Basic Knowledge Desired:
  • Knowledge and understanding of production and fabrication management requirements such as specification creation, scheduling, financial analysis, resource allocation, and time management.
  • Understanding of business and technology (complexities of products, machinery, cost elements: direct & indirect labor, overhead, direct materials, expenses, etc.)
  • Ability to always lead by example. motivate, guide, develop, and direct your employees as they work. constantly taking charge.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.


Physical Demands:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to use hands and arms to manipulate, handle, feel, reach, or operate objects, tools, or controls.
  • Able to walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, occasionally work at heights up to 20 feet.
  • Occasionally lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds and/or move up to 50 pounds. Anything heavier than 50 pounds will require two people to lift / carry.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish individual colors.


Working Environment:
  • The work environment is a partially environmentally controlled indoor environment. Temperatures can fluctuate between 60F and 100F but is typically around 70F. At times working outside will be required.
  • The employee may be subjected to noise levels, ranging from low volume to loud and will be required to wear provided safety hearing devices from time to time, which will be provided.
  • The employee will be exposed to a variety of household/commercial chemicals that will require the employee to follow company rules/regulations outlined by that MSDS.
  • All Team Members must wear provided OSHA approved eye protection at all times in manufacturing areas. The employee will be required to wear provided safety eyewear throughout the performance of their duties.


Qualifications & Experience:
  • BA / BS degree in Business, Industrial Technology / Engineering, Management, or related discipline strongly desired.
  • 4-6 years of direct work in a production management capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid driver's license in good standing.
