Position Highlights

The Research Security team is accepting applications for an Export Control Analyst. The Export Control Analyst position engages in the day-to-day operation and implementation of the University's export control compliance program's policies and procedures. The Export Control Analyst will analyze project-related activities, agreements, documents, and technical parameters related to an activity, product, technology, or document for export control determination. as well as prepare and execute export control license applications and other authorizations that the institution needs for conducting its activities. Additionally, the Export Control Analyst will proactively engage with faculty, staff, students, and units/departments across campus to achieve a collaborative export compliance culture.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Evaluate campus-wide activities and projects involving export-controlled information, technology, equipment, or items to determine appropriate regulatory and compliance pathways based on specific operational circumstances.
  • Identify requirements for export licenses or secondary authorizations, and manage the end-to-end application and submission process.
  • Monitor ongoing activities, identify potential export compliance violations or non-conformance issues, and lead reporting or remediation efforts.
  • Conduct thorough restricted-party screening to evaluate individuals and institutions associated with proposed activities, mitigating potential regulatory exposure.
  • Support the end-to-end development, implementation, and ongoing oversight of Technology Control Plans (TCPs) to safeguard export-controlled activities, facilities, equipment, technical information, and materials.
  • Determine the necessity of a Technology Control Plan (TCP) for restricted projects and oversee the initiation, development, and implementation process.
  • Conduct routine TCP compliance audits to evaluate adherence to established security protocols, utilizing official audit frameworks and securing signed acknowledgments from Principal Investigators (PIs) and project personnel.
  • Identify non-conformance issues during TCP audits, document findings, and execute formal corrective action plans with PIs. Ensure sustainable protocols and preventative measures are established and monitored to mitigate future compliance risks.
  • Analyze situational circumstances to establish timelines, accountabilities, and root causes, documenting investigative findings to inform appropriate corrective actions and institutional responses.
  • Oversee and maintain the export compliance database management system (Agiloft), ensuring compliance with federal regulations and institutional recordkeeping standards.
  • Develop, implement, schedule and present export compliance-related educational training and materials for campus-wide use.
  • Assist the Director in creating and updating export control policies and procedures. Conduct risk assessments, identify potential export control vulnerabilities, and develop/implement mitigation measures.
  • Apply for and maintain the export control licenses and other authorizations the institution needs to conduct its activities.
  • Gather, create, and analyze complex information regarding export-controlled activities to develop structured reports, briefings, and presentations requested by senior leadership and institutional governance bodies.
