JOB SUMMARY

The Distribution and Hosting Capacity Planning departments are responsible for conducting power flow and statewide feeder capacity analyses to help meet customer needs, support solar generation development, and provide circuit capacity insights that advance innovation, efficiency, and renewable energy interconnections across Georgia Power's distribution system. Together, these teams play a key role in planning for growth and renewable integration by delivering accurate, timely insights aligned with industry and regulatory needs.

The Distribution Planning Manager will lead the Distribution and Hosting Capacity Planning teams in achieving departmental goals. Responsibilities include providing leadership and performance management for both leaders and technical subject matter experts, shaping and guiding the continued evolution of planning processes, strategically evaluating and advancing planning tools and technologies, supporting succession planning for critical roles and functions, and fostering collaboration with other operating company distribution planning teams and industry partners. The role will also help guide decisions on the technical merits of key projects and support prioritization for effective capital investment. In addition, this position will work closely with Region Distribution, Distribution Engineering and Reliability, Distribution Standards, Area Planning, Electric Transportation, Distributed Generation, Geographic Solution and Services, and Business Development internal teams to develop high-quality distribution and hosting capacity planning solutions. These solutions must be forward-looking as Georgia Power continues shaping a more flexible, visible, and optimized distribution grid that supports distributed energy resources and other emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the Distribution and Hosting Capacity Planning department, providing guidance and performance management for the team, with direct supervision responsibilities for supervisors and principal engineers/project managers.
  • Provide strategic direction to enhance methodologies, tools, and processes that support distribution and hosting capacity planning assessments, while advancing future capabilities and improving efficiency and accuracy.
  • Read, interpret, draft, and communicate policies, procedures, and legal agreements.
  • Support the Distribution Planners in developing innovative and cost-effective solutions for electric service to new and existing distribution served customers, maintaining the reliability of Georgia Power's distribution system.
  • Support the Hosting Capacity Planners in producing Georgia Power's statewide Hosting Capacity Map, ensuring the team meets its regulatory objectives while innovating existing processes to become more efficient.
  • Provide oversight for Distribution and Hosting Capacity Planning related capital budget spending, collaborating with the Distribution Capital Portfolio team.
  • Represent Georgia Power on the Southern Company Distribution Planning Management Council, serve as a voting member of the Distribution Project Review Team (DPRT), and lead technology pilots and collaborative initiatives with other operating companies.


Qualifications

Educational/Certification Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field is preferred.
  • Advanced degree and/or PE certification is a plus.


Experience:
  • Demonstrated focus on Safety
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience with full performance management responsibilities is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of Distribution and/or Transmission experience is required.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in Distribution Planning, Hosting Capacity Planning, Area Planning, Region/Field Distribution, Distribution Reliability, Distribution Operations, or Distributed Generation is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CYME, Python, PSS/E, artificial intelligence applications, or other system modeling software is a plus.

  • Ability to leverage strong distribution field and/or planning knowledge to challenge conventional approaches and develop practical, innovative solutions to complex planning problems.
