Department Overview

The Strategy and Growth functional area is dedicated to long-term strategic and infrastructure planning. With electricity demand expected to double over the next 15 years, we're building an energy system of the future for the world's fourth-largest economy: the State of California. The Strategy and Growth team spans Energy Policy and Procurement, Strategy and Innovation, Integrated Long-Term Planning, and the Commercial Growth Organization.

This role will sit within the Commercial Growth Organization and support our efforts to accelerate affordable load growth and deliver an end-to-end customer experience that earns the trust and enthusiastic endorsement of our customers.

Position Summary

We expect the Director, Speed to Power-Flexibility Solutions to accelerate speed to power for large load customers by unlocking capacity to bring forward in-service-dates by years. Building upon PG&E's leadership across demand response, Virtual Power Plant (VPP) and storage, we intend to move quickly to scale the next generation of flexibility programs and prove utilities and customers can work together to deliver safe, dispatchable, reliable, local resources. Success in this role will help PG&E compete and win new loads by reducing interconnection timelines, minimizing execution risk and keeping our commitment to deliver rate-reducing load growth for all our customers.

The Director will work cross-functionally to ensure that flexibility-based strategies are seamlessly integrated across planning, engineering, delivery and operations while maintaining a strong focus on customer outcomes and long-term grid resilience.

The Director will help design, commercialize, sell and scale flexibility programs that access diverse resources such as compute from data centers, EV charging load management EV, customer-sited storage and residential VPPs. Internal

This Director's experiences and integral involvement with large-scale energy customers will be the critical inputs to develop solutions that are economically viable for customers and robust enough to meet stringent utility reliability standards. The Director oversees, coordinates, and supports multifaceted projects to streamline approvals, interconnection processes, and ensure efficient project execution.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location at the Oakland Headquarters, based on business need.

Reporting

The Director, Speed-to-Power-Flexibility Solutions will report to the Senior Vice President, Commercial Growth Organization; and will build the team necessary to execute the mission.

Job Responsibilities
  • Accelerate In-Service Dates (ISDs) by enabling customers to connect ahead of full network buildout through innovative interim flexible solutions that balance customer needs, grid reliability, and operational readiness.
  • Lead the commercialization, product strategy, and go-to-market execution for speed-to-power and grid flexibility solutions, translating technical capabilities into scalable customer offerings that unlock grid capacity and create value for both customers and the company.
    • Responsibilities include market assessment, customer segmentation, business case development, needs analysis, voice-of-customer programs, product positioning, pricing and commercial framework development, contract and commercial term negotiations, customer outreach, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring operational readiness for successful launch and scale.
    • Drive adoption and revenue realization by developing commercialization roadmaps, customer engagement strategies, performance metrics, and continuous improvement plans for flexibility offerings.
  • Own the end-to-end development and commercialization lifecycle of flexibility solutions, from concept development and pilot design through market launch, operational integration, customer onboarding, and program expansion.
  • Collaborate across teams to develop, test, and implement flexibility-based connection strategies. This includes launching and scaling programs such as FlexConnect (distribution) and T Flex (transmission) that allow customers to adjust load profiles to avoid network constraints until upgrades are completed.
  • Enable successful project execution by coordinating activities across transmission and distribution planning, engineering, and delivery teams to enhance project health and speed-to-power outcomes.
  • Monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to interconnection timelines and grid flexibility, providing actionable insights to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Identify regulatory and policy barriers affecting speed-to-power initiatives and advocate for solutions through engagement with industry groups, regulators, and government agencies.
  • Develop and manage risk mitigation strategies to reduce execution uncertainty and ensure compliance with safety and reliability standards throughout project delivery.
  • This role requires regular travel throughout our service territory to support customer engagement, strengthen cross-functional collaboration, and provide on-the-ground coordination needed to advance projects, address challenges, and drive successful implementation of flexibility and interconnection solutions.

Background Qualifications

Minimum
  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Business, Economics, Engineering, or equivalent related work experience.
  • 10 years of job-related experience.

Desired
  • Education: Related MBA or equivalent graduate degree highly desired, Policy, Energy Management or related fields, is highly desirable.
  • Management: 3 years prior supervisory/managerial experience of geographically dispersed teams.
  • Flexibility: Experience developing, operating and optimizing utility, retailer, customer or aggregator load management / demand response / BTM storage assets & portfolios.
  • Product: Track record of commercializing a new technology, product or service within the energy industry.
  • Growth: Business development, key account management, contract negotiations.
  • Communications: Effective public speaker able to represent PG&E externally and advocate for flexibility solutions with regulators, stakeholders, customers and industry partners.

Compensation

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

We estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed within the reasonable compensation range of $192K to $277K. The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis. This leadership role is also eligible for an annual Short Term Incentive Plan (STIP) award, as well as the Long Term Incentive Plan (LTIP) annual grant.
