Full Job Description
Summary:
Thompson Palm Springs is seeking an experienced Director of Sales to join our Executive Leadership Team and help shape the future of one of the most celebrated lifestyle resorts in California.

The Director of Sales is a strategic, results-driven leader responsible for driving revenue growth and maximizing sales performance across key business segments. This executive will lead the resort's sales organization, including group sales, catering and events, leisure sales, and business transient, while partnering closely with Revenue Management and other commercial disciplines to optimize overall hotel performance.

Reporting directly to the hotel's Managing Director and partnering closely with Hyatt's sales and commercial leadership, the Director of Sales will play a key role in developing and executing the resort's business strategy and achieving its long-term revenue objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Leadership
  • Develop and execute comprehensive sales strategies that maximize revenue, market share, and profitability across key business segments.
  • Lead the sales components of the annual business planning process, budget development, revenue forecasting, and strategic market analysis.
  • Establish clear sales priorities and deployment strategies based on business needs, market conditions, and revenue opportunities.
  • Identify emerging opportunities and trends and develop strategies to outperform competitive market conditions.
  • Maintain accountability for achieving group, catering, leisure, business transient, and overall sales objectives.
  • Partner closely with Revenue Management and hotel leadership to optimize business mix, pricing opportunities, need periods, and overall revenue performance.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
  • Build, inspire, and lead a best-in-class sales organization focused on performance, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Recruit, mentor, coach, and develop high-performing sales leaders and future talent.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, urgency, ownership, and exceptional customer service.
  • Establish clear performance expectations, goals, and sales activity standards.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and professional development to strengthen individual and team performance.
Luxury Group, Catering & Special Events
  • Drive strategic group and catering initiatives with particular emphasis on luxury weddings, social celebrations, incentive travel, corporate retreats, and large-scale productions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key industry influencers, event planners, luxury travel advisors, meeting professionals, and corporate accounts.
  • Actively identify, solicit, and secure new business opportunities while strengthening relationships with existing accounts.
  • Partner closely with resort operations to deliver exceptional experiences that generate repeat business, referrals, and long-term client relationships.
  • Ensure Thompson Palm Springs remains a preferred destination for high-profile events, exclusive gatherings, and luxury group experiences.
Sales Strategy & Business Development
  • Develop account strategies and sales deployment plans that support the resort's revenue goals and priority market segments.
  • Strengthen relationships with key accounts, third-party partners, travel advisors, meeting planners, and other sales channels.
  • Represent Thompson Palm Springs at industry events, trade shows, sales missions, client events, and key account engagements.
  • Identify new markets, accounts, and revenue opportunities that support the resort's business objectives.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the competitive landscape and evolving customer and market trends.
  • Partner with Hyatt's global and regional sales teams to maximize account penetration and leverage systemwide opportunities.
Financial & Business Acumen
  • Maintain ownership of the Sales budget and effectively manage departmental expenses.
  • Deliver accurate sales forecasts, production updates, and market intelligence to hotel leadership, ownership, and corporate partners.
  • Present business results, sales strategies, opportunities, and performance updates during ownership and executive review meetings.
  • Analyze market trends, booking pace, account production, conversion, sales activity, and financial performance to drive informed decision-making.
  • Establish measurable sales goals and hold the team accountable for achieving revenue, activity, and productivity expectations.

This is an exempt (salaried) position. The budgeted salary range for this position is $150,000-$200,000, and the position is eligible for incentive compensation. This is the pay range Thompson Palm Springs reasonably expects to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions will be based on a number of factors, including experience and education.

This position is not available for remote or hybrid work. Relocation assistance is available.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in luxury group sales, catering, special events, weddings, and resort operations.
  • Strong financial and business acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, revenue strategy, and profit optimization.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong understanding of sales strategy, account development, business mix, market segmentation, and competitive positioning.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, lifestyle-driven environment.
  • Experience working with ownership groups, asset managers, and corporate stakeholders preferred.
