Full Job Description
Job Summary:

MUFG Americas is seeking a Director to serve as Group Head of the Entertainment Finance Portfolio Management Group (PMG) - a senior leadership role at the intersection of deep industry expertise, first-line credit authority, and team development.

It is a first line of defense credit leadership position, where the Director owns the credit integrity, underwriting standards, and portfolio health of MUFG's Entertainment Finance vertical, covering Film and Television Production Loans, Music Library and IP Financing, digital media lending, and corporate finance for Large and Mid-Corporate borrowers across the entertainment ecosystem.

The Entertainment Finance PMG partners closely with the Global Relationship Management (GRM) team but maintains independent credit authority and analytical oversight. The Director leads a team of Portfolio Managers responsible for structuring, due diligence, risk ratings, covenant compliance, and active portfolio monitoring - ensuring that every credit decision reflects rigorous analysis, policy adherence, and sound risk judgment.

MUFG's global balance sheet, long-standing relationships with leading studios, streamers, music rights holders, and entertainment holding companies, and deep institutional knowledge of entertainment finance structures create a uniquely compelling platform for a senior credit professional ready to lead at scale.

Responsibilities:

Advanced Credit/Underwriting Solutions:

  • Provide senior level credit oversight to Portfolio Management / Global Relationship Management Deal Teams for Entertainment transactions following the development and analyses of financing structures/strategies to support/identify opportunities for film/TV production loans, music library loans, a broad variety of entertainment companies including acquisition finance and corporate re-capitalization transactions.
  • Work within a deal team environment (with GRM, Sponsor Coverage, Syndications, & Securities) leading the development and analyses of financing structures/strategies to support asset-based entertainment finance structures.
  • Oversee prescreening of proposed transactions to identify critical structural issues and risks, exercising judgment to balance institutional policy with business opportunity.
  • Review and approve Portfolio Manager recommendations on underwriting, hold levels, and credit structuring - ensuring alignment with MUFG's risk strategy, policy guidelines, and regulatory expectations.
  • Provide required support to Global Relationship Management on a "portfolio level" to assist in the selection of assets that will meet performance targets and fit the portfolio balance from a risk and return perspective.
  • Attend bank/client meetings as necessary/appropriate.
  • Coordinate with the Credit Division, Structured Finance Credit Office, or International Credit Division when required to ensure timely review and approval of transactions.

Portfolio Management:

  • Maintain comprehensive, current oversight of the entertainment finance leveraged loan portfolio - monitoring for credit quality changes, deterioration, covenant breaches, and upgrade or downgrade triggers.
  • Ensure the quality and rigor of due diligence across all portfolio credits, consistent with MUFG policy and regulatory standards.
  • Comprehensive (and most current knowledge) of credit policy.
  • Timely instruction to staff of changes to credit or other bank policies.
  • Monitoring performance of due diligence and regularly scheduled evaluation of loan portfolio for which they are responsible.
  • Prepare and review detailed credit analyses for the most complex transactions, including evaluation of corporate and industry risk, historical and projected operating performance, and capital structure.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of macro-level country and credit risk factors and communicate relevant developments to the team on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for knowledge of all industries and all current events in the portfolio utilizing internal and external sources.
  • Extensive knowledge of standard and non-standard bank products including loans, letters of credit, derivatives, foreign exchange, securitization, and leasing.
  • Responsible for interfacing with internal and external auditors and regulators where appropriate, assuring passing results.
  • Responsible for addressing operational or credit-related issues identified through audits and examinations.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with industry organizations to keep abreast of industry developments.
  • Maintain dialog with internal credit-related support groups, Credit Risk Management Office and Credit Division for the Americas to ensure an accurate and timely flow of information about U.S. Corporate Banking portfolio.
  • Recommend hedging approaches where appropriate.

Stakeholder and Partner Engagement:

  • Serve as a senior credit partner to Global Relationship Management, the Head of Entertainment Finance, and relevant Product Partners - providing portfolio-level credit insight that supports business development and risk-adjusted return targets.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with industry organizations and contacts to stay current on entertainment finance market dynamics, emerging structures, and sector trends.
  • Liaise with Credit Risk Management, the Credit Division for the Americas, and other internal support groups to ensure an accurate, timely flow of credit information.

Leadership and Team Management:

As Group Head, this Director carries meaningful team leadership accountability - building capability, developing talent, and setting the standard for credit excellence across the Entertainment Finance PMG.
  • Lead direct supervision of the Entertainment Finance Portfolio Management team, including hiring, performance management, and professional development of Portfolio Managers and support staff.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and structured feedback to direct reports, identifying individual strengths and development areas and creating clear pathways for growth.
  • Mentor senior team members on complex credit and managerial challenges; instruct junior staff in credit evaluation techniques, financial modeling, regulatory rating methodologies, and repayment analysis - consistently aligned with MUFG policies and procedures.
  • Complete formal performance reviews for all direct reports and ensure the team meets established quality, timeliness, and compliance standards.
  • Identify internal and external training opportunities to strengthen team capability across credit analysis, industry knowledge, and professional skills.
  • Collaborate closely with peer Managing Directors and Directors across the broader Portfolio Management Group to share knowledge, align standards, and maintain consistency of approach.

  • A minimum of 5 years of team management experience, including direct supervision of portfolio managers, credit analysts, or underwriting professionals.
  • Demonstrated expertise in entertainment, media, sports, or IP-backed finance - with hands-on experience in film/TV production lending, music library or royalty finance, or related specialty credit structures.
  • Strong command of credit fundamentals: underwriting, risk rating methodologies, covenant compliance, credit deterioration management, and regulatory reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess complex capital structures, evaluate industry and operating risk, and produce credit analyses appropriate for loan committee or regulatory review.
  • Completion of a formal credit training program; money center bank background preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree such as an MBA or CFA is preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of bank products including loans, letters of credit, derivatives, foreign exchange, securitization, and leasing, and the ability to recommend appropriate structures across product lines.
  • Experience interfacing with internal audit, external auditors, and bank regulators.
  • Familiarity with third-party valuation methodologies for music libraries, IP catalogs, film/TV content libraries, or similar entertainment assets.
  • Established network within the entertainment finance banking community.

Core Competencies:

  • Exceptional analytical rigor with the ability to form and defend independent credit judgments.
  • Strategic thinking balanced with operational discipline - comfortable managing both complex transactions and team performance simultaneously.
  • High energy, strong work ethic, and resilience in a fast-moving deal and portfolio environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail without losing sight of the macro credit picture.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, articulate credit positions clearly, and partner effectively across GRM, product groups, and risk functions.
  • Collaborative leadership style with a demonstrated ability to build, retain, and motivate high-performing credit teams.
  • Deep alignment with MUFG's values - integrity, client focus, and a commitment to responsible banking.
