This is a hybrid position and must be located within 100 miles of the Mayo Clinic campus located in Jacksonville, FL for occasional on-site expectations based on business needs.

Organizational Relationships

Reports to the Core Contracting/Specialty Contracting Revenue Strategy and Innovation (RSI) Division Chair or Senior Director. Partners closely with RSI Medical Directors, Senior Directors, Managers, Analytics, and cross-site and cross-functional RSI teams. Represents RSI Contracting and Payer Relations on Mayo Clinic committees and leadership forums, as assigned. Maintains frequent engagement with Mayo Clinic leadership, physicians, and senior administrators, and collaborates across administrative functions including revenue cycle, finance, marketing, access management, referral coordination office, and clinical practice areas to advance enterprise objectives. Works collaboratively with internal partners to align and leverage shared initiatives and strategic priorities. Engages directly with leaders from external organizations, including payer organizations, large employers, and employer consultants or associations. Serves as a mentor and leader committed to developing team capabilities, ensuring the organization remains agile and aligned with the evolving healthcare and payer landscape.

Job Description

Responsible for developing and advancing strategic relationships with payers and employers to expand patient access to Mayo Clinic Florida services. Leads the negotiation and management of payer and specialty contracts for assigned organizations and collaborates with the RSI Division Chair and/or Senior Director on negotiations with other key payers. Serves as a core member of the Contracting and Payer Relations (CPR) team, with primary accountability for building, strengthening, and optimizing strategic partnerships. Drafts and negotiates complex contract language to ensure alignment with organizational goals and strategic priorities. Collaborates closely with internal Mayo Clinic administrative partners to support efficient contract implementation, monitoring, and ongoing management. Provides strategic oversight of external payer and employer engagement to proactively identify, address, and resolve operational and contractual issues. Leads the design and execution of initiatives that enhance market performance and practice yield, as directed by RSI leadership. Maintains strong, proactive relationships with external stakeholders through consistent communication and identification of mutually beneficial opportunities. Establishes and maintains effective collaboration with Mayo Clinic practice and administrative leadership. Contributes to the development and execution of departmental, regional, and enterprise-level strategies aimed at improving market share, yield, and patient access. Advises Mayo Clinic leadership on contract provisions, reimbursement trends, and evolving payer and employer market dynamics. Serves as an institutional subject matter expert on healthcare payer markets and related strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

Master's degree in business, healthcare or other related field required and 10 years of finance management experience with a progressive organization. In lieu of a master's degree, a bachelor's degree in business, finance or a related field plus 12 years' of finance management experience with progressive responsibilities.

Must have legal contract structure, content and health insurance marketplace experience. Requires a broad experience and proven knowledge of corporate benefit options, insurance industry standards, payer payment methodologies, managed care concepts, health care finance fundamentals, medical terminology, third party billing, payment and collection principles. Must have superior skills in leadership, relationship management, verbal and written communications, organization, decision making and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple disciplines internal and external to the organization. Need strong skills in managing multiple tasks concurrently. Positive attitude and strong persuasive skills needed. Direct reports will include other department personnel. Prefer experience with implementing major organizational change, including significant contract or operational redesign and other operational efficiency improvements as payer dynamics have changed. Promotes teamwork and seeks to maximize the potential of all employees. Needs or requires little direction. Is fully capable of independent thought and direction. Able to work, function, and succeed in a consensus driven, collaborative culture and work environment. Must be an individual of high energy, positive attitude, and a proven track record of getting results. Experience with or sensitivity to the uniqueness of a combined research, education and patient care setting desirable. Travel is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in healthcare administration, preferably within an academic center or mid/large integrated medical center is preferred.
