Job Title: Director, Backend Engineering and Architecture

Location: Troy, Michigan

Position Responsibilities:
• Contribute to backend architecture design, including design patterns and scalable system components.
• Provide technical guidance to backend engineering team members to support alignment with architectural and performance objectives.
• Support backend modernization initiatives, including migration to microservices and cloud-based platforms.
• Establish and maintain backend design documentation, integration standards, and code-review practices.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Frontend, and Security teams to implement technical solutions aligned with business needs.
• Participate in architecture discussions, performance analysis, and system reliability improvements.
• Ensure adherence to CI/CD best practices, code-quality metrics, and architectural standards.
• Contribute to backend system scalability, observability, and performance optimization efforts.
• Support system monitoring, capacity planning, and reliability engineering activities.
• Telecommuting and working from home permitted from anywhere in the U.S.

Required Skills & Experience:
• Bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems and 1 year of experience in the job offered or 1 year of experience in a related programming occupations such as DevOps Engineer, Software Developer, Software Engineer or equivalent using tools such as C#; 1 year of experience with .NET Core or equivalent backend framework; 1 year of experience using Cloud Platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP including experience with ECS, EKS, or AKS; 1 year of experience using Databases tools such as MySQL, SQL Server, and MongoDB, and Architecture tools such as Microservices, event-driven design, RESTful APIs; 1 year of experience with CI/CD pipeline management and monitoring tools; 1 year of experience with security tools such as OAuth2, IAM, encryption, load balancing, and distributed caching. In lieu of a Bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems, employer will accept an additional 2 years of experience in the skills listed above.
