In this role, you will be responsible for leading the team that designs, deploys, maintains, and supports the desktop infrastructure and administration of corporate applications. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both deep technical expertise and strong people management skills. The Desktop Engineering Lead will oversee a team of desktop engineers, set strategic direction for the desktop environment, and serve as the primary escalation point and technical authority for all desktop engineering functions. This is a hybrid role with a requirement to work out of the NYC office one week per month.
Major Responsibilities:- Primary responsibilities include leading, developing, and managing a team of desktop engineers responsible for hands-on development, standardization, automation and management of all desktop Windows 11 (or newer) image deployments and updates in the VDI and physical desktop infrastructure.
- Administration of Active Directory Group policy including creating, editing, and evaluating GPOs that effect the desktop environment.
- Experience in deploying, managing and troubleshooting Windows operating systems to include application-level support.
- Responsible for defining the design and architecture of desktop images, establishing standards and deployment frameworks using Microsoft MDT and SCCM, and overseeing their ongoing maintenance and evolution.
- Maintain and support virtual desktop (VDI) platform Omnissa Horizon View brokers, monitor availability and performance of physical and virtual desktop systems.
- Automating solutions and changes for the desktop environment using scripting languages like Powershell or Python.
- Package applications for automated deployment in Microsoft SCCM/Intune, Omnissa AppVolumes, or other packaging/virtualization technologies.
- Manage images and updates to thin client hardware using HP Device Manager.
- Serve as the final escalation point and technical authority for End User Support/Service Desk and Operations teams for application packaging and OS-related issues; drive root cause analysis and long-term resolution strategies.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of desktop engineers; set performance goals, conduct reviews, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration in supporting an enterprise level infrastructure.
- Provide support off-hours when needed.
- Define and own the strategic roadmap for the desktop engineering function, aligning technology decisions with business objectives and organizational growth.
- Manage vendor relationships, licensing agreements, and procurement for desktop-related software and hardware, ensuring cost-effective and timely delivery.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Infrastructure, Security, Network, and Application teams to deliver integrated solutions and ensure desktop environments meet compliance and security standards.
- Develop and manage team budgets, project timelines, and resource allocation to deliver engineering initiatives on schedule and within scope.
- Establish and enforce engineering standards, documentation practices, and change management processes across the desktop engineering team.

Experience:- Bachelor's degree in Technical, engineering, computer science or equivalent experience.
- At least 10+ years of experience supporting enterprise desktop environments in a mission-critical setting, with a minimum of 3-5 years in a team lead, manager, or director capacity.

The expected base salary ranges from $160k-$200k. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
