Job Summary
The Database Administrator (DBA) - III will manage and maintain production and non-production database environments, with a focus on database administration, physical data storage, security, performance, backup and recovery, data modeling, and data documentation. The role requires 5-7+ years of direct related experience and strong proficiency with database technologies, particularly MS SQL Server and Oracle. The DBA will work alongside subject matter experts to improve data documentation, including data dictionaries and data models, while ensuring databases are optimized for performance, availability, security, and cost.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage and maintain production and non-production databases.
• Establish and maintain standards for physical data storage, database maintenance, access, and security administration.
• Perform database backup and recovery activities.
• Configure database parameters and optimize database environments.
• Prototype physical database designs based on logical data models.
• Define data repository requirements, data dictionaries, and data warehousing requirements.
• Optimize database access and allocate or reallocate database resources for optimal configuration, performance, and cost.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to improve database documentation.
• Complete and enhance data dictionaries and data models for ACH PH and ACH DWH environments.
• Support data modeling and data dictionary development activities.
• Apply database administration principles, practices, and procedures to assigned projects and operational activities.
• Independently analyze database issues, make technical decisions, and provide appropriate solutions.
Required Qualifications
• 5-7+ years of direct, work-related database administration experience.
• Proficient knowledge of MS SQL Server.
• Strong knowledge of Oracle databases and SQL.
• Experience with database design and administration.
• Strong experience with data modeling and data dictionary development.
• Experience building and maintaining data dictionaries.
• Knowledge of database technologies, data structures, and data warehousing concepts.
• Experience with database backup, recovery, access, security, and performance optimization.
• Ability to apply both specific and broad knowledge of database administration principles, practices, and procedures.
• Demonstrated independent thinking and decision-making abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Coursework in Computer Science, including database design, database administration, database technologies, computer architecture, and data structures.
• Experience working with technical documentation and enterprise data modeling initiatives.
Certifications
• Technical certification related to database administration or relevant database technologies.
