Data ScientistJOB SUMMARYThe Data Scientist provides advanced analytical, statistical, and data science expertise to support strategic decision-making and improve student outcomes across the district. This position develops predictive models, conducts complex statistical analyses, creates interactive dashboards and reports, and transforms large, complex datasets into meaningful information that informs instructional, operational, and organizational decisions.
Working collaboratively with the Chief Academic Officer, Director of Research, Evaluation and Testing, Information Technology, Learning & Achievement, Student Support Services, Community Education and Early Childhood, Human Resources, Finance, and other district departments, the Data Scientist supports program evaluation, continuous improvement efforts, and the effective use of data throughout the district.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESData Analysis and Predictive Modeling- Develop statistical models, predictive analytics, and data science solutions to support district initiatives and continuous improvement.
- Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, relationships, and opportunities for improving student outcomes and organizational effectiveness.
- Apply statistical techniques including regression analysis, forecasting, clustering, predictive modeling, classification, and other quantitative methods.
- Conduct exploratory analyses and data mining to answer strategic questions related to instruction, operations, student services, and district performance.
- Identify appropriate data sources and analytical approaches to address district priorities.
Data Management- Develop SQL queries and other data extraction methods to obtain and prepare data from multiple district information systems.
- Build, organize, and maintain datasets used for recurring analyses, dashboards, and reporting.
- Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and quality of data used in analyses and reporting.
- Collaborate with Information Technology to improve access to reliable and consistent district data.
Reporting and Data Visualization- Design and maintain interactive dashboards, visualizations, and reports that communicate complex information in meaningful and accessible ways.
- Translate technical analyses into actionable information for district leaders, school administrators, and staff.
- Prepare written reports and presentations that support district planning, evaluation, and decision-making.
- Support district staff in interpreting data and understanding analytical findings.
Research and Program Evaluation- Support the evaluation of district programs, initiatives, and strategic priorities.
- Design research methodologies and statistical analyses to measure program effectiveness and implementation.
- Assist with accountability reporting and state and federal reporting requirements as assigned.
- Maintain current knowledge of research methods, educational analytics, and emerging data science practices.
Collaboration and Consultation- Collaborate with district departments to identify analytical needs and develop appropriate research and data solutions.
- Provide technical expertise in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and data visualization.
- Work closely with the Director of Research, Evaluation and Testing to support district research, accountability, and evaluation initiatives.
- Partner with Information Technology to improve access to reliable, high-quality data.
- Participate on cross-functional teams supporting district improvement initiatives.
- Maintain confidentiality of student, employee, and district information in accordance with district policies and state and federal laws.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONSEducationMaster's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Research Methods, Educational Measurement, Analytics, or a closely related quantitative field.
Experience- Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in data science, statistical analysis, research, program evaluation, predictive analytics, or a related field.
- Experience working with large, complex databases.
- Experience developing dashboards and communicating analytical findings to leadership.
- Experience in public education or another large public-sector organization is preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT- Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment.
- Requires prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
- Occasional walking, standing, bending, reaching, and light lifting up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- The work environment includes district offices, meeting rooms, and school buildings.
- Must be able to respond to changing priorities while maintaining professionalism and composure.
- Ability to travel to various district sites as needed.
