Summary

Mission Technologies, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is seeking a Data Scientist 2 to support the Joint Training Synthetic Environment (JTSE) for the Joint Staff J7 (JS J-7). This role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact data engineering and analytics efforts within a critical national defense environment.

What You Will Do
• Design, build, test, and operate ETL/ELT data pipelines using Apache Spark
• Develop reliable, scalable, and cost-effective data engineering solutions
• Implement and maintain data quality checks across pipelines
• Document workflows, processes, and data structures to enhance team knowledge
• Support data cataloging efforts and ensure compliance with security requirements
• Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues across ingestion, transformation, and query layers
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation in Confluence, including data dictionaries
• Collaborate with business and functional teams to understand needs, deliver insights, and present findings that support decision-making

What You Must Have
• 2 years' experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years' experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience developing data analytics and processing pipelines using Python/PySpark
• Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines
• Ability to perform data quality validation and pipeline optimization
• Strong skills in documenting technical workflows and working with cross-functional teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Self-driven with the ability to work with minimal supervision
• Must have an active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret

Preferred Requirements
• Experience configuring and using Superset for data connections and dashboards
• Familiarity with Talend or Qlik tools
• Experience developing with Apache Spark and Airflow
• Knowledge of Git workflows and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience using JIRA or other Agile project management tools

Physical Requirements

May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
