The Position:

The Continuous Improvement Engineer II, reporting to the Industrial Engineering Manager, is responsible for providing engineering support to the distribution center operations process and design, as well as our customers' specific needs. The IE II will apply intermediate-level engineering knowledge to analyze data, identify inefficiencies and implement solutions to drive productivity, reduce costs, and improve quality across the operations.

This position works Monday through Friday, from 8am-5pm.

The compensation for this position ranges from $85K-$105K, depending on experience.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Responsible for evaluating the configuration of new and existing processes, physical setup, and use of appropriate material handling equipment for both standard and customer specific processes and layouts, throughout the company.
  • Responsible for analyzing assigned accounts for optimization in physical and systemic setup, process, and productivity with the goal of achieving best practice across all operational functional areas within the role's areas of influence.
  • Work independently and cross-functionally in the application of comprehensive project plans aimed at implementing new business processes, executive improvement projects, and creating best practices.
  • Participate in RFP proposals with our vendors for full scope racking and material handling solutions.
  • Use of Inventory and Production Control techniques to evaluate storage and throughput strategies.
  • Analyze data to define requirements, report on KPI, and identify areas of improvement.
  • Using CAD, compare the cost of multiple layouts, production area designs, and options.
  • Develop labor planning tools, time studies and labor standards.
  • Lead large scale projects and initiatives with more junior IEs, as well as mentoring.
  • Report on findings using presentations (PowerPoint), written reports, and verbal form.
  • Occasionally work in the functional areas in the warehouse with facility staff in order to determine current state and use information to assist in determining desired state/best practice.
  • Use available data to display baseline metrics and establish goals and a ROI to determine viability of project.
  • Leverage all available software tools and lean process methodologies to ensure maximum effect of project.
  • Leads lean events, uses Six Sigma tools (Pareto, Fishbone, and others) for measurable improvements.
  • Designs complex layouts, optimizes equipment and storage, and partners with operations to ensure feasibility.
  • Uses advanced tools (BI dashboards and others) to produce insights, develop KPIs, and advise mid-level management.
  • Strong working knowledge of internal WMS functionality, interprets system data, applies advanced simulation, and integrates new tech.
  • Responsible for the savings continuity of approved and implemented solutions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Moderate travel required to other Barrett Distribution Centers facilities (30% average, up to 50% at peak times)


What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field required
  • Master's Degree strongly preferred.
  • LEAN Six Sigma Green Belt Certification required
  • Two (2)- Four (4) years' experience in business process engineering, warehousing, production environment, or related experience required.
  • Two (2)+ years' experience with Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing skills, preferred
  • Strong working knowledge MS tools, WMS functions, Six Sigma Tools, and CAD/Simulation.
  • Experience with work measurement tools strongly preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English (Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred).
  • Thorough understanding of business processes and process improvement
  • Ability to adjust training presentations to skill set of audience
  • Must demonstrate high level of interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work well under pressure and problem solve across a variety of business processes.
  • Able to balance competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines. Strong emphasis on organizational skills and attention to detail.
