What You Will Do

Join our dynamic team within Infrastructure Services Division, Network Services (ISD-NS) and embark on an exciting journey as part of the Data Center Team across our esteemed Laboratory. As a key member, you will play an integral role in providing unparalleled support for both classified and unclassified computer data centers utilized within the organization.
You will serve as a member of the Data Center Team, which is responsible for providing operational support for core services across Institutional Support Division. You will be responsible for providing support for 8 data centers.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing data center operations work including equipment installation/removal.
  • Installation/removal of fiber and copper cables with emphasis on cable management.
  • Validating and providing access to different secure areas and physical securities.
  • Responding to customer inquiries and providing timely solutions to end-user problems using ServiceNow ticketing system.
  • Coordinating with facilities in regard to Power and Cooling infrastructure and maintenance.
  • Writing and modification of processes and procedures to ensure standards are upheld.
  • Contributing to the development of new and efficient methods of managing data centers and accommodating the array of tenants who reside in them.

This position will be filled at either the Computing Systems Professional 1/2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Computing Systems Professional 1 $72,800 - $115,400
As a Computing Systems Professional 1, your primary focus will be on modernizing our production data center spaces. Life-cycling and replacements of legacy devices and cabling will be a key component prior to implementation of new cable management methods and practices. Additionally you will be deeply involved in many of the exciting IT projects that we are challenged with.

Computing Systems Professional 2 $87,800 - $143,000
Beyond the foundational requirements of the lower-level position, the successful candidate will demonstrate proven project management skills, including stakeholder management, timeline coordination, and strategic planning.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team with good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Experience following change management, incident management, and maintenance procedures in a production environment.
  • Experience installing data center equipment, including (but not limited to) servers, network devices, PDUs, Racks. Including the use of various hand tools and such as but not limited to: Drills, screwdrivers, hammers, socket wrenches.
Additional Job Requirements for Computing Systems Professional 2:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
  • Demonstrated strong troubleshooting skills, with emphasis across all Information Technology related fields including software manipulation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data center power and cooling systems, including: PDUs, UPS, Fiber & Coper cabling.
  • Experience designing, documenting, and implementing new processes, with a focus on training and empowering colleagues through effective knowledge transfer.
Education/Experience at lower level:
Position requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combinations of education and experience.

Education/Experience at higher level:
Position typically requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum of four years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with immersion technology in production data center environments.
  • Power and/or cooling infrastructure requirements in a high availability environment such as a data center with a heavy emphasis on power usage effectiveness methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Data Center Inventory Management software solutions.
  • Additional certifications that align with the requirements and job functions.
  • User must have a Q clearance or be able to obtain a Q clearance


Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Must be able to climb ladders, lift objects weighing 30+ lbs., utilize mechanical lifting devices and wear proper protective equipment (gloves, composite shoes, glasses, vests).

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 Year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
