Position OverviewThe Complex Commercial Claims Adjuster is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Manager, Commercial Liability Claims. This role investigates, documents, and determines coverage and liability for high-exposure, complex, and litigated commercial general liability and auto claims. The adjuster manages claims through resolution, collaborates with defense counsel and other stakeholders, and supports effective claim outcomes consistent with company policies and regulatory requirements.
LocationCandidates who are able to work out of WCF's Sandy, Utah headquarters are preferred. Candidates able to commute to one of our regional offices in Phoenix, AZ; Las Vegas, NV; Englewood, CO; or Meridian, ID are welcome. Remote candidates residing in Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, or Idaho will also be considered.
Licensing This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate insurance adjuster license(s), including any licenses required in states of operation if not already held.
Essential Job Functions- Manage a caseload of complex bodily injury claims, including those involving catastrophic injuries and fatalities.
- Conduct thorough investigations, including reviewing police reports, medical records, expert evaluations, and witness statements.
- Assess liability, damages, and coverage to make strategic claim decisions.
- Collaborate with legal counsel in litigation management, including attending mediations, depositions, and trials as necessary.
- Evaluate and negotiate settlements within authority limits while balancing cost efficiency and claim resolution.
- Communicate effectively with policyholders, claimants, attorneys, and other involved parties.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
- Provide recommendations on reserve adjustments based on claim developments.
- Work with internal teams, including underwriting, product, and legal, to provide feedback on loss trends and potential risk factors.
- May act as a department trainer regarding the handling of complex injury claims and the litigation process.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree or AIC designation.
- At least 5 years of experience handling complex claims and litigation in commercial insurance.
- Experience with construction liability, D&O, and E&O claims is a plus.
- Advanced understanding of state-specific unfair claims practices regulations, policy contracts, and commercial insurance principles.
- Strong knowledge of tort law, insurance coverage, litigation procedures, and negotiation strategies.
- Knowledge of general liability coverage and related insurance principles.
- Ability to interpret medical records, accident reconstruction reports, and legal filings.
- Strong understanding of medical, automotive, and liability terminology and concepts.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Exceptional organizational, time management, and decision-making skills.

The expected salary range for this position is 89,100.00-111,300.00. This salary range depends on experience, education, and location for this specific position.
