Full Job Description
We are seeking a Cloud Engineer Subject Matter Expert (SME) with experience leading cloud computing initiatives, providing strategic guidance, technical expertise, and best practices across AWS, Azure, and GCP platforms. This position requires an individual with extensive experience in cloud architecture, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and a deep understanding of cloud security, performance optimization, and compliance. As a Cloud Engineer SME, you will play a critical role in shaping our cloud strategy, mentoring technical teams, and ensuring our cloud infrastructure supports our ambitious growth objectives effectively and securely.

The person in this position will serve as the go-to expert for all cloud-related initiatives, offering strategic insight and technical guidance on complex cloud architectures and deployments across AWS, Azure, and GCP. As a Cloud Engineer SME, you will play a critical role in shaping our cloud strategy, mentoring technical teams, and ensuring our cloud infrastructure supports our ambitious growth objectives effectively and securely.

To be successful in the role, you will be highly experienced in leading cloud computing initiatives, providing strategic guidance, technical expertise, and best practices across AWS, Azure, and GCP platforms. This position requires an individual with extensive experience in cloud architecture, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and a deep understanding of cloud security, performance optimization, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and refine Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using advanced tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Python, ensuring scalable, reliable, and efficient management of cloud resources.
  • Lead technical discussions with Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) to influence product roadmaps, resolve high-level issues, and establish best practices for cloud adoption.
  • Provide expert-level support in the design and optimization of cloud infrastructure, ensuring it meets the scalability, performance, and security needs of the organization.
  • Spearhead the creation and management of custom OS and application images, aligning them with organizational standards and performance criteria.
  • Drive the automation of system and application configurations to streamline deployment processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Lead security and compliance audits, developing and implementing strategies to mitigate risks and ensure adherence to FedRAMP High, FISMA, NIST 800-53, and DHS 4300A standards.
  • Mentor and develop technical teams, sharing knowledge and best practices to elevate cloud competencies within the organization.
  • Conduct comprehensive analyses of system performance and utilization, recommending architectural and operational improvements to support business objectives.
  • Oversee critical issue resolution, providing escalation support for complex operational challenges.
  • Direct research and evaluation efforts regarding emerging cloud technologies, tools, and methodologies, recommending adoption where appropriate to maintain competitive advantage.

Minimum Requirements:
  • At least ten (10) years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cloud computing environments, including deep knowledge of cloud architecture, security, and compliance frameworks across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Advanced proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and practices (Terraform, Ansible, Python).
  • Strong foundation in Agile, Scrum methodologies, and a DevOps culture, with an ability to implement continuous improvement processes.
  • Expertise in CI/CD pipeline architecture, software development practices, and version control systems.
  • In-depth understanding of networking principles, cloud security protocols, and best practices for secure cloud deployments.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, capable of leading the resolution of complex technical issues.
  • Outstanding leadership, communication, and mentorship skills, with an ability to influence technical decisions and foster a culture of technical excellence.

Education & Certification Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems Management, or related technical field. Extensive professional experience and achievements may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
  • Advanced or specialized certifications in AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Relevant security certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, or Security+.

Clearance:
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust. Active Public Trust is preferred. FEMA Public Trust is highly preferred.
