Full Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Oracle Database Engineer to support the modernization of a critical government information system. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Oracle database administration, specifically Oracle 19c, with proven experience in both on-premises and AWS RDS environments.

You will be responsible for database creation, schema design and implementation, performance tuning, and establish robust backup and restore procedures to ensure data integrity and availability. You will work closely with Java developers to optimize database interactions, support SAP Business Intelligence reporting requirements, and ensure seamless integration with Apache Solr indexing processes.

This role requires meticulous attention to detail, the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues in production environments, and strong documentation skills.

Position Responsibilities

Database Administration:
  • Create and manage Oracle 19c databases in both on-premises and AWS RDS environments
  • Design and implement database schemas to support application requirements
  • Perform database performance tuning and optimization
  • Execute patch management and version upgrades for Oracle databases

Data Protection & Security:
  • Establish and maintain robust backup and restore procedures
  • Implement Oracle database security hardening measures
  • Ensure data integrity and availability across all environments
  • Develop and test disaster recovery plans


Migration & Integration:
  • Optimize database interactions with Java application components
  • Support SAP Business Intelligence reporting requirements and queries
  • Ensure seamless integration with Apache Solr indexing processes

Compliance & Monitoring:
  • Implement compliance controls for government systems (FISMA, FedRAMP, or similar)
  • Deploy and maintain database monitoring tools
  • Troubleshoot complex database issues in production environments
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation
  • Obtain and maintain required security clearance

Experience and Qualifications:

To be eligible for this demanding position, the ideal candidate should demonstrate the following experience and qualifications:

Required Education and Years of Experience:

13+ Years of experience in Systems or IT related roles or a highly related field of work with similar scope and responsibilities.

A Bachelor's degree may be substituted for 4 years of experience and a Master's Degree may be substituted for 6 years of experience

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience administering Oracle 19c databases in production environments
  • Experience with Oracle database administration in both on-premises and AWS RDS environments
  • Experience designing and implementing database schemas for enterprise applications
  • Experience with database performance tuning and optimization techniques
  • Experience establishing and maintaining backup and restore procedures for Oracle databases
  • Experience implementing Oracle database security hardening measures
  • Experience with patch management and version upgrades for Oracle databases
  • Experience optimizing database interactions with Java applications
  • Experience integrating databases with search/indexing platforms (Apache Solr experience preferred)
  • Experience troubleshooting complex database issues in production environments

  • Experience in creating and maintaining technical documentation for database systems
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain a TS/SCI government clearance which requires US Citizenship

Desired Qualifications:

  • Plan and execute database migration strategies from on-premises VMware to AWS RDS
  • Experience supporting Business Intelligence reporting requirements (SAP BI preferred)

Determination: The final salary offered will be based on the awarded contract funding and the selected candidate's experience, education, and geographic location.
