Job Description

Reports To: General Manager

Supervises: Engineer staff

General Purpose: As a member of the hotel Executive Committee, the Chief Engineer develops, implements, and manages programs for the operation and maintenance of all equipment, physical structures, and landscaping in compliance with brand standards, local, state and national codes and regulations to protect the asset, guests and employees, to ensure optimum operations, and minimize expenses and maximize customer satisfaction. The Chief Engineer is responsible for the short and long term planning and day-to-day operations of the engineering department, recommends the department's budget and capital expenditures, and manages expenses within approved budget constraints.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Supervises Engineers in the department.
  • Attracts, retains and motivates staff.
  • Hires, trains, develops, empowers, coaches and counsels, conducts performance and salary reviews, resolves problems, provides open communication vehicles, disciplines and terminates, as appropriate.
  • Develops, recommends, implements and manages the department's budget, capital expenditure plan, forecasts and objectives consistent with maintaining a first class property and management's expectations.
  • Develops, implements, and manages a maintenance program and negotiate maintenance contracts for the hotel, the grounds and all of the equipment in compliance with brand standards and local, state and national codes and regulations to ensure the safety, convenience and satisfaction of all guests, managers and employees to protect the asset and maintain the property in first class condition.
  • Develops, implements, and directs all Emergency Programs; ensures all equipment is maintained, conducts inspections and drills, ensures compliance with all codes and regulations, trains all employees and maintain accurate records to ensure a safe environment which protects the asset, guests and employees.
  • Develops, implements, and manages energy conservation programs for the property to minimize expenses.
  • Ensures all guest request/complaints related to the building and its systems are resolved.
  • Monitors equipment function daily, checking and maintaining optimal temperature and settings of major operating systems.
  • Ensures that all safety concerns are addressed every day. Checks that stairwells are clear, that there are direct path to fire extinguishers, and all breakers panels are free from obstructions. Schedules all preventative maintenance with all contractors.
  • Participates in the management of the property as a member of the Executive Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor or manager.


Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of building management/engineering required along with considerable working knowledge of other major areas in the hotel.
  • Able to create an action plan based on a "big picture" of information from all areas of hotel operation and clearly communicate with employees in all areas at all levels.
  • Demonstrated management skills.
  • Able to provide information and associated services to hotel management and guests.
  • Must pass a background check.

Education/Formal Training:
  • High school diploma, or equivalent education

Experience:
  • At least two years working in maintenance/engineering.

Physical requirements:
  • Able to stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Able to lift at least 25 lbs.
