Team: Business Operations
Reports to: Business Operations Lead
Location: New York City
In-office: 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
Role OverviewWe are looking for an outstanding Business Operations Manager to help scale how Axial's Business Operations team and go-to-market (GTM) organization operate. Reporting to Axial's Business Operations Lead, you will help improve the productivity, decision-making, and operating performance of Axial's go-to-market organization, while also building new technical capabilities and making critical information more accessible across the company.
This is a senior individual-contributor role for a high-horsepower technical and analytical generalist, with meaningful opportunities to lead through the management of offshore teams and other external resources. You will move fluidly between building automations, AI-powered tools and related infrastructure, analyzing complex data, improving GTM systems, managing external resources, and helping leaders make better operating decisions. The role is highly hands-on and requires someone who is equally comfortable working in Excel or Google Sheets, configuring systems, building lightweight technical solutions, and presenting clear business recommendations.
You will spend the majority of your time independently leading proactive quarterly priorities from scoping through implementation and adoption, while also responding to requests from GTM and company leaders. You will use judgment to question the status quo, identify underlying problems, recommend higher-value approaches, and prioritize work appropriately. You will also scope and QA the work of more junior teammates while managing offshore teams, consultants, contractors, and other external service providers.
This role is best suited to someone who combines exceptional analytical ability, technical curiosity, strong business acumen, resourcefulness, clear communication, and an unusually high standard of organization and reliability. The right person will create meaningful leverage for the Business Operations Lead by consistently turning ambiguous business needs into complete, accurate, and practical solutions.
Responsibilities- Business Intelligence and Data Analysis: Lead analytical work across the full member lifecycle, including target setting, territory design, campaign performance, productivity, and customer retention. Work deeply in spreadsheets, build dashboards and reporting, and translate findings into clear business recommendations.
- GTM Systems and Workflow Automation: Build and maintain automations, integrations, scripts, and lightweight internal tools using technologies such as n8n, Zapier, Clay, Google Apps Script, APIs, SQL, and AI-enabled development tools. Own and improve workflows across systems such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, Gong, and related GTM tools.
- Offshore Team and External Resources Management: Manage Axial's offshore operations team and other external resources, including consultants and service providers. Set priorities, translate business needs into clear workstreams, review output, provide feedback, evaluate performance and cost-effectiveness, and continuously assess whether work should be automated, simplified, outsourced, brought in-house, or eliminated.
- Business Operations & GTM Strategy: Act as a thought partner to BizOps and GTM leaders on targeting, segmentation, campaign strategy, operating processes, goals, and team performance. Identify high-value opportunities, bring forward strong project recommendations, contribute to quarterly planning, and question existing approaches or priorities rather than defaulting to the status quo.
- Project Ownership and Prioritization: Independently lead projects from initial scoping through analysis, implementation, adoption, and follow-through. Spend the majority of your time driving proactive quarterly priorities while balancing reactive requests. Bring larger or tradeoff-heavy work into weekly project-scoping discussions with a recommendation.
- Functional Leadership and Team Development: Support the development and effectiveness of more junior teammates by providing guidance on analytical, technical, and project-execution questions. Partner with their manager to help scope selected work, review high-impact deliverables, and share constructive feedback, documentation, and best practices. Contribute to stronger standards and ways of working across the Business Operations team.
Qualifications- Experience: 5 - 7 years of professional experience, with most of that experience in Business Operations, Revenue Operations, GTM Operations, GTM Engineering, Sales Operations, or a closely related role. Strong candidates may have started in consulting, investment banking, engineering, analytics, or another rigorous field before moving into an operating role.
- Operating Experience: Experience succeeding in a fast-paced, high-growth operating environment is strongly preferred. Exposure to both a larger organization and an earlier-stage company, or experience consulting with multiple startups, is a plus.
- Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical ability and strong proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets. Able to structure ambiguous business questions, work with complex or imperfect data, identify the most important insights, and convert those insights into practical recommendations.
- Technical Generalism: Demonstrated ability to work across business systems, automation, data, and lightweight technical development. You do not need to be an expert in every tool, but should have meaningful experience with several of the following: GTM systems, workflow-automation platforms, SQL, scripts, APIs, dashboards, and AI-enabled tools.
- GTM Systems Fluency: Experience working with systems such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, Gong, or comparable GTM tools. You should understand how systems, data, workflows, and operating processes connect to support effective go-to-market execution.
- Critical Thinking and Business Acumen: You do not take requests at face value. You ask the questions required to understand the underlying business problem, identify flawed assumptions or missing context, evaluate tradeoffs, and recommend a better path when appropriate.
- Project Ownership, Prioritization, and Reliability: Demonstrated ability to independently scope, plan, and execute complex projects from definition through implementation and adoption. Exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and dependable, with the judgment to balance proactive priorities, incoming requests, quality, and follow-through while operating with limited supervision.
- Communication and Functional Leadership: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical or analytical work clearly, challenge assumptions constructively, and present recommendations at the appropriate level. Able to raise the quality of others' work through project scoping, QA, mentorship, documentation, and shared standards, without relying on formal authority.
