Overview
This role is responsible for managing modelers, electrical models, coordination efforts, and integration with project operations.
The Branch BIM/VDC Lead will work closely with the branch Operations Team, including the Branch Manager/VP, field foremen, project managers, estimators, project coordinators, and accounting department. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, collaboration, and creative problem-solving. The successful candidate will proactively communicate with office and field personnel to ensure expectations and milestones are managed and met while balancing multiple assignments and priorities.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent hands-on experience in the electrical trade.
- Previous experience in an electrical BIM modeling role or similar position.
- Proficiency with BIM software, including Revit, Evolve Electrical, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
- Strong understanding of electrical design principles, codes, and standards.
- Strong electrical knowledge and willingness to learn.
- Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with all team members.

- Ability to oversee multiple team members and multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with Operations Team members regarding project expectations, timelines, deliverables, issues, and other items that support branch operations.
- Work with other Branch BIM/VDC Leads and Corporate BIM/VDC Leadership to discuss, establish, modify, and implement BIM/VDC standards, workflows, and policies to ensure continuity across all branches.
- Serve as the BIM/VDC advocate at the branch level for team members and corporate initiatives.
- Review design models and VDC files to identify scope and support estimating and operations in improving project planning accuracy and contractual deliverables.
- Coordinate with Branch Operations Teams before and after project award to establish modeling resource needs and workflows.
- Collaborate with Operations Teams to initiate job startup meetings and align VDC team expectations.
- Lead BIM kickoff meetings and assist project managers with startup tasks.
Oversight and Management
- Oversee and manage BIM deliverables while prioritizing tasks for timely execution.
- Monitor and ensure Project Lead Modelers conduct coordination meetings with project teams and general contractors, aligning all VDC efforts with project goals.
- Ensure Project Lead Modelers upload, manage, and maintain BIM documents, versions, sheets, and prefabrication deliverables within the standard document-sharing platform and verify compliance with branch standards.
- Ensure Project Lead Modelers generate and coordinate prefabrication deliverables, including spool sheets, BOMs, rack assemblies, and RTS/Trimble points, in alignment with project requirements.
- Hold team members accountable for work product and project expectations.
- Oversee weekly tracking and reporting of cost codes for BIM/VDC efforts.
- Work with Operations Teams to forecast BIM needs for future projects and initiatives.
- Capture and report lessons learned to promote continuous improvement.
Adherence to Standards
- Serve as the local owner of all BIM deliverables while ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to VDC standards.
- Maintain model health through workflow enforcement and QA/QC practices.
- Ensure compliance with VDC standards, folder structures, and naming conventions.
- Develop and maintain electrical models, including field and general contractor deliverables.
- Assist field teams with installation drawings, layout exports, and model navigation tools.
- Identify content needs or workflow gaps and escalate them to Corporate BIM/VDC Leadership and other Branch BIM/VDC Leads.
Training and Mentoring
- Participate in VDC-led training sessions and quarterly standards updates.
- Provide oversight, mentoring, training, and guidance to team members within the branch.
- Develop, assess, and communicate equipment and training needs for team members.
- Train, educate, and communicate with all branch members on BIM/VDC initiatives, standards, processes, and workflows.
- Foster relationships with branch members to create a knowledge-sharing platform for field electricians and project managers.
- Participate in and provide guidance during design coordination meetings, offering solutions to potential clashes or issues.
- Provide guidance and oversight to support modelers and junior modelers assigned to projects.
Integration
- Provide a fully coordinated 3D model with intelligent equipment components and conduit racks that accurately represent real-world devices and support optimal equipment positioning based on contract documents and project intent.
- Assist in the development of prefabrication designs and shop drawings for conduit racks, power skids, substations, and related assemblies.
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineers and other stakeholders to gather design requirements and ensure alignment with project specifications.
- Conduct model reviews and quality control checks to ensure compliance with standards and project requirements.
