SUMMARY: Coordinates activities of internal and external groups to propose and
complete projects within cost and time constraints that meet customer requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Lead the design, development and qualification of products and technologies.

Maintain customer contact and meet regularly with customer engineering personnel to present and coordinate progress of programs.

Coordinate product development to ensure designs are producible within cost and lead time limits while meeting customer requirements.

Coordinate the design, analytical, test, manufacturing, quality, materials, and other engineering support required.

Provide guidance selecting materials and specifying design of experimentation to successfully develop products.

Research technical documents, review and interpret data, and test results to converge on a design that ensures products meet requirements.

Communicate with the customer on program status.

Identify risks and resolve issues to ensure program objectives are met.

Assure that programs are performed on time and within budget. Report program status to management.

Represent Engineering in MRB (Material Review Board) activities.

Provide technical support to production and customer.

Perform administrative duties, program scheduling and tracking, budgeting, planning, correspondence, technical report writing, resource evaluation, etc.

Assist Marketing to define and negotiate with customers the technical portion of the business agreement.

Lead development, development testing, write ATP, and qualification test (procedure and report).

Participate in trade shows bringing technical knowledge to the show site if asked.

Prepare cost estimates and forecasts, budgets and schedules to coincide with sales plan.

Travel regularly. Mainly North America, Europe, Asia and/or South America as required.

Perform miscellaneous duties as required.

Responsible for promoting and abiding by the HSE rules and policies.

PRIMARY TOOLS OR EQUIPMENT:

Use of typical office equipment such as calculators, telephones, computers, copiers, printers, fax machines, e-mail, scanners, mechanical measuring equipment (such as calipers, micrometers, stereoscopes, etc.) and materials test equipment (such as shakers, actuation-based material testers, etc.).

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Education and/or Experience (minimum): Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Mechanical, Aerospace, Applied Mechanics or Engineering Sciences, 2-6 years mechanical engineering experience with emphasis on structures in a product development environment. Knowledge of mechanical drawing and design principles and practices, geometric tolerancing, general principles of dynamics, strength of materials, and familiarity with materials and processes used in the aerospace industry with a background in the use of elastomers as an engineering material.

Leadership Skills: Provide effective leadership by understanding the issues and direct with effective communication verbally, in writing and in presentations. Meet and deal with co-workers, customers and management professionally.

Problem Solving: Apply critical thinking and logic to issues. Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Make sound decisions based on problem solving techniques.

Language Skills: Able to read, comprehend, analyze and interpret correspondence, technical documents and regulations. Communicate effectively verbally, in writing and present information to co-workers, customers, managers and government representatives. English is a requirement. Other languages (especially French) are assets.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts used in engineering, statistics, calculus and basic accounting principles. Have good understanding of stress, finite element fatigue and vibration analysis. Apply SPC and data analysis to interpret results.

Computer Skills: Working knowledge of Windows environment. MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Access, Acrobat, Corel, Print Artist and other PC programs. Use Computer Aided Design (CAD) system. Experienced producing tables and spreadsheets for efficiencies, presentations and project planning.

Other Teamwork or Skills: Participate as a team member. Actively listen and participate in discussions. Assist engineering members or other departments. Reassess work based on goals and priorities. Complete tasks and manage others to be within deadlines. Work in a multi-disciplined environment. Organization skill sets desired.

ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch and lift light to heavy weighing items. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus from close items to items at a distance.

Salary range: $90,000 to $125,000
