Assistant Vice President, Critical Care -Newark Beth Israel Medical Center

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Critical Care will drive operational excellence, quality, and continuous improvement across our team. In this role, you will build positive relationships with patients, visitors, and colleagues, using customer feedback to refine services and promptly address all inquiries. You will champion continuous quality improvement by evaluating processes, encouraging collaborative feedback, and proactively solving problems.

In addition to driving quality, you will manage resources efficiently by aligning staffing with demand, adhering to budgetary guidelines, and optimizing operational workflows. You will cultivate a diverse, supportive environment using effective employee retention strategies, clear communication, and constructive conflict resolution. Success in this position requires strong organizational skills, resilience, and a results-driven approach to managing multiple priorities efficiently.

As the Assistant Vice President of Critical Care, a typical day might include the following:

• Engage with Staff & Patients: Walk unit floors to maintain high visibility, interact with patients, visitors, and multidisciplinary teams, and address inquiries or concerns promptly.
• Oversee Clinical Standards & Compliance: Monitor daily nursing practice and unit operations to ensure alignment with evidence-based standards, regulatory guidelines, and patient care protocols.
• Manage Staffing & Resources: Review unit volume, project care demand, and adjust nurse scheduling to ensure safe, high-quality patient care while adhering to operational budgets.
• Lead Quality Improvement Initiatives: Evaluate care workflows, collect feedback from clinicians and patients, and implement continuous quality improvement (CQI) strategies to resolve operational challenges.
• Mentor & Support Leadership Teams: Conduct check-ins with nursing managers and patient care staff to provide guidance, deliver ongoing performance feedback, and support retention and professional development.
• Collaborate on Strategy & Policy: Partner with hospital executive leaders, medical staff, and care management to refine clinical policies, advance strategic objectives, and guide teams through organizational change.
• Execute Multi-Project Priorities: Balance daily operational tasks with long-term hospital initiatives, managing time-sensitive assignments with resilience and a sense of urgency.

To be considered for this leadership opportunity, candidates must hold a current license as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of New Jersey and possess a strong academic foundation, including both a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a Master's degree. Additionally, a minimum of four years of progressive nursing administrative experience is required to successfully manage the operational, financial, and clinical complexities of this role.
