Full Job Description
JOBSUMMARY

A House Supervisor is a registered nurse within the WSNA bargaining unit who coordinates among departments at WhidbeyHealth to perform administrative tasks; report any issues that may arise during shifts to managers and administrators-on call; and liaise with patients, patients' families, medical professionals, and other WhidbeyHealth staff to ensure quality patient care.

A House Supervisor should have extensive experience coordinating and supporting nursing staff throughout a hospital environment and be able to lead a team performing high-level patient care across hospital departments. They are responsible for ensuring nursing staff has adequate rest and meal breaks and, in the absence of a manager or supervisor, serve as the primary point of contact for WhidbeyHealth's nursing staff and oversee overnight and weekend patient flow in both clinical and non-clinical departments, including: Emergency Department, Patient Access, Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, Surgical Services, Whidbey Family Birthplace, Medical/Surgical Unit, Intensive Care Unit and Respiratory Therapy. A House Supervisor also registers and discharges patients and provides patient care and clinical support within departments as needed.

PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:
  • Liaising with patients and family members and coordinating with senior management, and healthcare professionals to ensure quality care.
  • Performing administrative duties, including shift-to-shift nurse staffing.
  • Ensuring nursing staff has adequate support to take rest and meal breaks.
  • Providing nursing staff with clinical instruction, advice, or guidance, when required.
  • Implement safe action plans, assigns appropriate staff according to licensed scope of practice to maximize patient and / or stewardship outcomes.
  • Responds to administration calls and situations in the absence of Manager I Department Leader in a timely manner.

o Expediting issues of concern to senior administrators on call.
  • Updating records and communicating information to relevant departments.
  • Performing quality audits, documenting and reporting findings.
  • Coordinating the flow of patients through acute care settings nights and weekends.
  • Leading and serving on Task Forces, Process Improvement Teams and Committees as assigned.
  • Having knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.
  • Acting confidently during emergent threats to the organization (i.e., fire, infant abduction, earthquake, power outage, water outage, etc.)

Education

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN).

Training and Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years Full-time post-licensure clinical experience in an acute setting.
    • One (1) year prior experience at the unit based charge nurse level or department level for non- nursing managers preferred.
    • Completion of National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) training program.
    • Proficiency in clinical documentation systems.
    • In-depth knowledge of best practices in healthcare.
    • Having knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    • Registered Nurse in the State of Washington.
    • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) verification.
    • Current Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) verification.
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program and Trauma Nursing Core Course required.
