Location: Toronto, ON (Simcoe Steam Energy Centre)
Type: Full-Time | Union Position (Unifor)

Are you a Power Engineer who enjoys working with complex plant equipment, solving operational challenges, and keeping critical infrastructure running safely and efficiently? This role is for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment and takes pride in maintaining reliable energy systems.

As an Assistant Shift Engineer, you'll support the safe and efficient operation of chillers, steam turbine generators, pumping systems, heat exchangers, and Enwave's Deep Lake Water Cooling (DLWC) infrastructure in a rotating shift environment.

What you'll do

You'll play a key role in the day-to-day operation of district energy plant systems, monitoring equipment performance, responding to alarms, conducting plant rounds, and supporting startup, shutdown, inspection, and maintenance activities. You'll help ensure reliable operation of chillers, steam turbine generators, pumping systems, heat exchangers, and cooling infrastructure while maintaining accurate operational records and documentation.

Working closely with plant operations and maintenance teams, you'll assist with troubleshooting abnormal operating conditions, optimizing system performance, and supporting commissioning and maintenance programs. You'll also contribute to the operation of Enwave's Deep Lake Water Cooling system, water intake infrastructure, and automated control systems.

Safety is central to this role. You'll operate in compliance with TSSA regulations, follow lockout/tagout and site safety procedures, participate in continuous improvement initiatives, and help maintain a safe and reliable operating environment.

What we're looking for

  • Experience operating equipment in an industrial plant environment such as district energy, refrigeration, power generation, or process facilities
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and operational decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain high attention to detail in a plant environment
  • Ability to work a rotating continental shift schedule including days, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, operating procedures, and compliance requirements within a regulated environment
  • Experience with large centrifugal chillers, steam turbine generators, plate heat exchangers, VFDs, BAS/SCADA systems, or industrial control systems is considered an asset
  • Exposure to DLWC systems, water intake infrastructure, CMMS platforms, or refrigerant handling certification is an asset.

Compensation

The expected base salary range for this role is CAD $ 34.18/hr- $45.40/hr , based on experience, skills, and alignment with the role.
