Full Job Description
We are seeking an Applications Scientist to join our team in Salem, NH. This role is onsite with travel required: ~25-50% - visits to customer sites, other Biotage offices, and tradeshows as required in the business.

The Applications Scientist supports sales, marketing, and customer success in environmental and food testing markets. This hands-on role requires experience with analytical sample preparation, LC/MS or GC/MS workflows, and complex matrices such as water, wastewater, soil, food, and agricultural products. The role translates technical application work into clear scientific content, customer support, and market insights.

Your responsibilities will encompass, but not limited to:

a) Scientific Content Generation:
  • Develop and optimize sample preparation methods for environmental and food testing applications, including PFAS, pesticides, mycotoxins, PAHs, PCBs, oil and grease, and other regulated or emerging contaminants.
  • Create application notes, white papers, posters, blogs, protocols, and presentations that support customer workflows and commercial campaigns.
  • Support customers through troubleshooting, workflow optimization, product demonstrations, and training.

b) Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
  • Working closely with sales, marketing, customer service, and R&D teams.
  • Cross-functional collaborations to align workflows and strategies.

c) Company representation and Market insights:
  • Showcase technical expertise by delivering engaging presentations, leading training sessions, and facilitating workshops for Biotage at Scientific meetings and tradeshows as well as our internal teams.
  • Leveraging scientific expertise and product knowledge to inform and aid Biotage Marketing teams develop effective marketing strategies and product positioning.

d) Training and Communication:
  • Frequent interaction with customers and collaborators to provide technical expertise and gather meaningful insights.
  • Sharing standard processes and insights gained from application development and research and providing actionable recommendations for the use of Biotage products in new markets and application areas.

Qualifications and Training:
• Bachelor's degree or higher in analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, food science, chemistry, biochemistry, or related field; master's or Ph.D. preferred.
• 3+ years in method development, application development, or customer support for environmental, food, agricultural, or applied testing labs; LC/MS/MS, LC-HRMS, GC/MS, or GC/MS/MS experience preferred.
• Hands-on sample preparation experience with complex matrices; SPE, SLE, QuEChERS, clean-up, evaporation, and automation experience preferred.
• Knowledge of environmental and food testing workflows, including PFAS, pesticides, mycotoxins, PAHs, PCBs, oil and grease, SVOCs, or other regulated and emerging contaminants; familiarity with EPA, FDA, ISO
