About the Role Shamrock Trading Corporation is looking for an Analytics Engineer II to join the Operational BI team. Shamrock runs more than 600 Power BI reports today alongside a small but growing set of Databricks dashboards, and the company is consolidating its reporting and semantic logic onto the Databricks platform. This role works in both environments: supporting and improving the existing Power BI estate while helping build the gold tables, metric views, and dashboard patterns the team will use to migrate it. The Analytics Engineer II will also own the reporting relationship for one Shamrock division, partnering directly with divisional stakeholders to understand their business, translate operational questions into governed metric definitions, and deliver reporting they trust. Success in the first year looks like a division whose core metrics are defined once in Databricks and consumed everywhere, and a set of migration patterns other analysts can follow without starting from scratch.
What You'll Do - Design, build, and maintain gold tables in Databricks that serve as the source of truth for business metrics and KPIs
- Migrate business logic from Power BI semantic models into Databricks metric views, reverse-engineering existing DAX measures and validating results against current reporting
- Build and maintain reporting in both Databricks AI/BI dashboards and Power BI, supporting the existing Power BI estate through the transition
- Contribute to the reusable modeling and migration patterns the Operational BI team uses to move reporting onto Databricks, and document them so teammates can adopt them
- Partner with stakeholders in an assigned Shamrock division to prioritize reporting needs and deliver accurate, intuitive reporting that earns end user confidence in the numbers
- Develop in-depth expertise in one Shamrock division and familiarity with data from the Shamrock family of brands
- Collaborate with data engineers, data modelers, and BI analysts on strategic data initiatives and shared data assets
- Monitor and test data sets and reporting for accuracy and reliability, and apply version control and code review practices to analytics code
- Be a resource to BI analysts adopting Databricks, sharing technical and data source knowledge as the team's skill set shifts
What You'll Bring - 3+ years as an Analytics Engineer, Data Engineer, BI Developer, or similar role with a strong technical background
- Advanced SQL skills, writing performant queries that are easy to read and troubleshoot for data modeling and analytics
- Experience designing and building curated or gold layer data sets in a medallion or similar layered warehouse architecture
- Hands-on experience with Databricks, including building and publishing AI/BI dashboards
- Experience building a governed semantic layer or centralized metric definitions, such as Databricks metric views, dbt metrics, or LookML. At Shamrock this is implemented in Databricks metric views
- Strong Power BI experience, including semantic model design and the ability to read and reverse-engineer existing DAX measures
- Familiarity with relational databases (Postgres, Redshift, MS SQL) and data warehousing concepts
- Experience with GitHub and software engineering best practices such as version control and code reviews
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex concepts and analytical findings to business leaders
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Finance, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
What Will Set You Apart - Experience developing Databricks Apps
- Experience with a development language such as Python
- Experience migrating reporting or semantic models from one BI platform to another
- Experience in transportation, logistics, financial services, or a similar operations-heavy industry
