Job Description SummaryThe Advanced Staff Thermal Systems Engineer fosters innovation and consistency by developing and being accountable for system-level architectures and execution. In cooperation with the Program Management team, the Aerospace Thermal Systems Engineer leads technical development projects. This role is responsible for the technical execution of the program while also serving as the primary technical point of contact for clients. During the program, the Advanced Staff Thermal Systems Engineer manages a multi-disciplinary project team of subject matter experts in fields such as thermal analysis, installation, mechanical design and analysis, reliability, controls, electronics and software, and testing.
Additionally, as a member of the senior technical staff the Advanced Staff Thermal Systems Engineer serves as a technical leader within the Intergalactic engineering group. This individual collaborates with company and other technical leaders, leads and mentors junior staff, and participates in development of the technical team.
Job DescriptionRoles and Responsibilities:
- Develop and be responsible for program's architecture and technical approach. This can include thermal and controls analysis, reliability analysis, solid modeling, testing, stress analysis, and other accepted methods in aerospace.
- Serve as technical lead for programs, provide clear objectives that are measurable and attainable, and coordinate technical activities with internal resources (engineers across different functional groups) and external resources (vendors, contractors).
- Identify and manage program's technical risks and work closely with the Program Manager to ensure successful execution of development programs.
- Manage and account for technical requirements from the top down - traceability, decomposition, derivation, and verification & validation.
- Allocate and decompose high-level requirements into lower-level specifications to internal functional groups, components, and suppliers as applicable.
- Serve as technical leader in the company contributing to technical strategy and growth/maturation of the engineering team and community.
- Research and recommend investments or changes in technology, toolsets, procedures, equipment, systems, etc. to continually improve Intergalactic' s products and services.
- Communicate and collaborate with customers and suppliers as part of design development process.
- Review and approve documentation for transition from prototype to production.
- Provide engineering support to trouble shoot and diagnose non-performing products (RCCA, lessons learned, etc.).
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and a Minimum of 5 years' experience in Systems Engineering, preferably within Thermal Management Systems.
Desired Characteristics & Experience:- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college, with 15+ years of work experience in Systems Engineering, preferably within Thermal Management Systems
- Working knowledge of key aerospace technical disciplines including requirements management, technical verification and validation methodologies, mechanical design, materials, modeling/documentation, structural analysis, thermal fluid sciences, electrical systems, system controls, embedded controls, development testing and analysis, qualification analysis and testing.
- Excellent interpersonal relationship building both internally and externally.
- Understanding of aerospace requirements management methodologies and processes - traceability, decomposition, derivation verification, and validation.
- Functional understanding of major aircraft systems: environmental control systems, powerplant, electrical, hydraulics, controls, avionics, power generation, and structures.
- Experience with Vapor Cycle Systems (VCS), Liquid Cooling Systems (LCS) and/or Air Cycle Systems (ACS)
- Experience and working knowledge of standard components in VCS, LCS, and ACS such as heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, valves, motor and motor controllers, water collectors/separators, etc.
- Familiarity with environmental testing and qualification methods such as MIL-STD-810 and DO-160
- Experience with requirements management tools, and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and processes heavily desired
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
- Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
- Established project management skills.
GE Aerospace will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening. The base pay range for this position is $150,000 - 200,000.00 USD Annual. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan. This posting is expected to close on October 11, 2026.
