At Barnes-Jewish Hospital, you'll have the unique opportunity to practice across both Vascular and Thoracic Surgery, developing a highly specialized skill set while supporting two dynamic surgical services. This hybrid role offers variety, professional growth, and the chance to make a meaningful impact in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Position Details:
  • Unique hybrid role supporting both Vascular Surgery and Thoracic Surgery
  • 3-12's per week (0530 on Vascular and 0600 on Thoracic), limited weekend coverage
  • Phased onboarding process: Inital training within Vascular, subsequent training and integration into the Thoracic Surgery service
  • Opportunity to build expertise across two high-acuity surgical specialties while maintaining a varied and engaging clinical practice
  • Strongly Preferred: Vascular Surgery and / or Thoracic Surgery
  • Preferred: Experience in a high-acuity Surgical ICU setting

Role Purpose

The nurse practitioner functions within their scope of practice as a healthcare provider, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team to provide comprehensive care to patients and families across practice settings. They demonstrate a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses commonly encountered within the inpatient setting. The nurse practitioner demonstrates an advanced level of clinical knowledge, communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and systems-based practice. They work with administration staff, nurses, physicians, medical/surgical trainees, and other staff to assure safe, effective, quality patient care.Minimum Board Certification(s):BJH: Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP), Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP- with appropriate experience)Preferred Board Certification(s): BJH: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP)

Responsibilities
  • Provides compassionate, appropriate, and effective patient and family-centered care for health recovery, illness prevention, treatment of critically ill, or end-of-life care.
  • Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion, and care coordination for patients and families with acute and chronic health needs in an academic inpatient setting.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with patients, families, physicians, medical/surgical trainees, and other health professionals.
  • Demonstrates the highest level of accountability for professional practice by participating in professional development, quality initiative/performance activities, and implementing standards of care within area of specialization.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
