Full Job Description
Job Summary

The Accountant plays a foundational role in that mission, delivering the accurate, timely financial data that enables OpenGov to grow and serve the public sector with integrity. Reporting to the Accounting Manager and based four days per week in our Chicago office, this role executes key GL accounting activities across monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles while partnering with FP&A and operations to keep our financial reporting sharp and reliable.

Responsibilities
  • Execute general ledger accounting for assigned areas - including accruals, fixed assets, leases, prepaids, and intangibles - by recording journal entries, preparing reconciliations, and supporting variance analyses
  • Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities by completing assigned deliverables on time and within established procedures
  • Partner with FP&A and cross-functional teams to gather information, resolve discrepancies, and support accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Assist with external audit preparation by compiling supporting documentation and responding to auditor requests within assigned areas
  • Support the maintenance of accounting policies and procedures, and surface ideas for workflow improvements within your area of ownership
  • Research accounting guidance on assigned topics and prepare supporting documentation for manager review


Requirements and Preferred Experience
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 1+ years of accounting experience in a public accounting or industry setting
  • Foundational knowledge of US GAAP, financial statements, and core accounting principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and related products
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks within a close cycle
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills; comfortable working cross-functionally with finance and non-finance stakeholders
  • Comfortable using AI-native tools to accelerate accounting workflows, improve efficiency, and support data analysis
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with NetSuite or a similar cloud-based ERP system
  • Exposure to accruals, fixed assets, prepaids, or lease accounting
  • CPA candidate status or active pursuit of CPA certification
  • Background in a SaaS, technology, or high-growth company environment
  • Familiarity with government technology or the public sector


Compensation

Chicago, IL: $75,000 - $90,000

On target ranges above include base plus a portion of variable compensation that is earned based on company and individual performance.

The final compensation will be determined by a number of factors such as qualifications, expertise, and the candidate's geographical location.
