The tech industry has seen massive growth in 2021. Google, Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Microsoft contributed a collective $1.2 trillion in revenue and $244 billion in net profit last year, and economists are anticipating a continued upswing. “Online-based companies had a competitive edge over their brick-and-mortar rivals. Businesses that relied upon face-to-face interactions suffered, while everyone gravitated toward conducting their business and shopping on the internet,” Forbes reports.
Now, as summer turns to autumn, some of the biggest tech companies are looking to fill a substantial number of high-paying roles before the end of the year. Here’s a look at some of the top positions and the salaries that go with them (sample titles and salaries below come from Business Insider; links to all available jobs from Ladders).
Amazon
By the end of 2020, Amazon’s annual profit surged by 220% thanks to a sharp increase in pandemic-influenced online shopping. As a result, they’re looking to increase their hiring rate. Specifically, they’re looking to take on new data scientists, marketers, salespeople, and business analysts.
“We certainly see stronger demand for workers,” said Brian Olsavsky, Amazon’s chief financial officer. “So far, we’ve had good success in hiring them with our wage and benefit package that’s pretty competitive. So we’re watching it carefully. But it’s probably one of the bigger elements of inflation in our business right now.”

- Principle software engineer ($185,000)
- Technical program manager ($175,000)
- Software Architect ($170,000
