The 10 best U.S. cities for women in tech (plus how to get hired in each)

Silicon Valley and New York are the centers of the universe for tech, right? Well, not for women. According to a new report from SmartAsset, the best cities for women in tech may not be what you think.

The report assessed the gender pay gap in each city by comparing the median earnings for women and men in computer and mathematical occupations. Other factors included in the rating were the income after housing costs, the number of tech jobs filled by women, and the four-year employment growth of the number of total tech jobs from 2015 to 2018 in each city.

Tech hubs like New York and San Fransisco actually came in places 27 and 33, respectively, and allowed growing tech centers to shine on this list. The winner in this report turned out to be Baltimore, Maryland, where women make up about 33% of the tech workforce and have average earnings equal to about 94% of that of men working in the industry.
