Full Job Description
The Worldwide Database Migration Specialist team positions AWS as the best place to migrate and modernize commercial and open-source databases. We help customers move off legacy Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, and other commercial engines to AWS-native databases - Aurora PostgreSQL/MySQL, RDS, and Amazon DSQL - using AWS DMS, Schema Conversion, and GenAI-powered migration tooling, accelerating some of the largest and most complex migrations in our portfolio. As a Sr. Specialist Solutions Architect on this team, you will lead deep, technical customer engagements on heterogeneous and homogeneous database migrations, and scale your expertise across the field through reference architectures, workshops, and enablement. This is a worldwide role supporting enterprise and strategic customers across all industries on their database migration and modernization initiatives.

Key job responsibilities

Lead deep, technical customer engagements on heterogeneous and homogeneous database migrations (Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, MySQL, PostgreSQL) to AWS-native targets including Aurora, RDS, and Amazon DSQL, solving complex challenges where the strategy and design are not yet defined.

Serve as a domain expert across the migration toolchain - AWS DMS, Schema Conversion, and popular GenAI-based migration and code-conversion tools.

At times, get deep into the weeds of the migration's technical challenges - root-causing replication, performance, schema, and data-validation issues hands-on - to unblock stalled migrations and keep customer timelines on track.

Build working prototypes, demos, and reusable artifacts for customer engagements using GenAI developer tools such as Kiro and Claude / Claude CLI to accelerate proofs of concept and demonstrate value hands-on.

Represent the voice of the customer, bringing field feedback to service teams to influence the product roadmap.

Provide advanced technical knowledge to GTM and account teams to unblock customers' most critical migration challenges, including senior-leadership escalations.

Act as a thought leader through AWS blogs, whitepapers, reference architectures, workshops, and events such as AWS Summit and re:Invent.

Create scalable field enablement for the broader SA population, and mentor and develop other Specialist SAs.

About the team

You're the person customers lean on when they're moving their most important databases to the cloud - off legacy systems like Oracle, SQL Server, and Sybase, onto modern managed databases on AWS. One day you're whiteboarding a massive migration with a customer's engineers; the next you're deep in the details, chasing down why a migration stalled and getting it unblocked. You'll build quick prototypes and demos - often with AI coding tools - to prove out an approach, then turn what you learn into guides and workshops others can reuse. Expect to travel up to about 30%, depending on your customers' needs.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 8+ years of infrastructure architecture, database architecture and networking experience

- 5+ years of specific technology domain areas (e.g. software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) experience

- 10+ years of IT development or implementation/consulting in the software or Internet industries experience

- Experience migrating or transforming legacy customer solutions to the cloud

- Knowledge of SQL, Linux, OLAP, and relational, NoSQL & multi-dimensional databases

- Database migration experience - AWS DMS, Schema Conversion, and/or native/third-party replication tools

- GenAI developer tools (Kiro, Claude/Claude CLI) for prototypes/demos and GenAI-based migration tooling

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of infrastructure architecture, database architecture and networking experience

- Knowledge of SAP systems (like SAP Business Suite, S/4HANA, SAP Business Warehouse, SAP HANA, SAP Business Objects, etc.) and their architecture and infrastructure needs

- Experience working with end user or developer communities

- Experience managing relationships with SAP customers and partners

- Experience in SAP S/4HANA, SAP Cloud Platform, SAP Cloud ERP and Cloud ERP Private

- Experience in SAP clean core design concepts, including design and build using non-SAP technologies in domains such as Generative / Agentic AI, and data & analytics
