Full Job Description
Zachary Piper Solutions, LLC is currently seeking a Windows Engineer to support a contract with the Department of Energy (DOE) and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) OCIO based in Washington, DC. This position is a full-time role that will be onsite. The Windows Engineer will play a critical role in designing, integrating, implementing, and supporting enterprise Windows server systems and applications across a highly secure federal environment. This position will focus heavily on Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) while ensuring the stability, security, and performance of the organization's Windows infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows servers, workstations, and associated software to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Apply operating system patches, updates, security fixes, and software upgrades to maintain compliance and security standards.
  • Monitor server health, system performance, and resource utilization to identify issues and optimize operational efficiency.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network-related issues within Windows environments.
  • Administer user accounts, permissions, and Group Policy Objects (GPOs) through Active Directory.
  • Implement and enforce security policies, including antivirus, encryption, firewalls, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Configure, test, and manage backup solutions and support disaster recovery planning and execution.
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts and automation workflows to improve operational efficiency.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, system diagrams, procedures, and reporting metrics.
  • Provide advanced Active Directory administration, including trusts, migrations, functional levels, and Group Policy management.
  • Develop, track, and implement change requests related to software upgrades, patches, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Work directly with vendors to resolve configuration issues and improve platform reliability.
  • Install, maintain, and manage SSL certificates on Windows systems.
  • Analyze network and server designs and recommend enhancements for scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Monitor, assess, and remediate vulnerabilities identified through security scans and reporting tools.
  • Administer and support Internet Information Services (IIS) and related web technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Serve as an escalation point for advanced Windows infrastructure support.
  • Support and maintain Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) environments, including deployments, patching, imaging, software distribution, and endpoint management.
Requirements:
  • Active DOE Q Clearance or Top Secret Clearance required.
  • 5+ years of experience administering and engineering Windows Server environments.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM/SCCM).
  • Experience with Windows Server administration in both physical and virtualized environments.
  • Strong expertise with Active Directory, Group Policy, and enterprise identity management.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and process automation.
  • Experience managing operating system patching, vulnerability remediation, and compliance initiatives.
  • Knowledge of IIS administration and Windows-based web services.
  • Understanding of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Experience supporting secure federal government environments preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
Compensation to Include:

Salary Range: $170,000 - $190,000 depending on experience
