This incumbent will serve as the first-line supervisor for sworn enforcement personnel assigned to the Enforcement Division Covert Unit. Supervises and assists undercover agents using asymmetric investigative techniques to intercept, disrupt, and counter criminal activity as it relates to the illicit wildlife and commercial harvest, sale , and trade and its nexus to other crimes.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Corporal or higher rank in state service:

Four years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

Possession of a current driver's license.

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

NOTE:
This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
  • Supervises and assists undercover agents participating in short-term, preliminary observation of individuals, groups, or organizations to gather information to determine whether criminal activity is taking place, has taken place, or is about to take place.
  • Supervises the continuous or prolonged observation of a targeted individual, group, or organization by clandestine means to gather information relative to an open criminal investigation.
  • Responsible for overseeing the daily operations that are conducted by the Enforcement Division Convert Unit, ensuring daily objectives are met.
  • Provides guidance and coordinates all additional resource requests when required.
  • Ensures that proper protocol is followed throughout the investigative process.

Appointment Type: This is a promotional opportunity, open only to current permanent, classified employees of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries/Enforcement Division.

Location: This position is domiciled in East Baton Rouge.
