OverviewV2X is growing and we are hiring a Welding Manager. The Welding Manager is responsible for establishing, developing, and leading welding capability within our aerospace manufacturing operations. This includes specifying and commissioning welding equipment, developing compliant aerospace welding procedures, hiring and training personnel, and ensuring adherence to quality and special-process standards. The role serves as the technical authority for welding and plays a key part in building a robust, scalable special-process function.
ResponsibilitiesMajor Job Activities:
- Lead the stand-up of welding capability, including equipment specification, vendor evaluation, installation, and qualification
- Develop aerospace-compliant welding procedures (e.g., AWS D17.1) and special-process documentation; oversee NADCAP readiness.
- Hire, train, and supervise welders and welding technicians; manage certifications and ongoing skills development.
- Partner with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to ensure processes meet design, reliability, and compliance requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement activities including process optimization, root-cause analysis, and efficiency improvements.
- Support customer, regulatory, and internal audits related to special processes and welding operations.
Materials & Equipment Directly Used:
- Welding systems (e.g., GTAW/TIG, laser welding, EB welding, resistance welding equipment)
- Weld fixtures, manipulators, and automation systems
- Weld inspection tools (NDT coordination, visual inspection equipment, destructive test sample prep)
- Manufacturing software: MES, QMS, digital work instruction tools
- Standard office and collaboration software
Working Envornment:
- Aerospace manufacturing environment with exposure to welding operations, fabrication areas, and inspection labs
- Occasional requirement to work near high-heat processes and heavy equipment
- Mix of office, shop floor, and outdoor environments
Physical Activities:
- Periodic lifting of components up to 25 lbs
- Standing for extended periods during weld trials or process development
- Use of PPE including welding helmets, gloves, and safety glasses
- Walking and climbing short stairs in manufacturing areas
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Direct supervision of welders, welding technicians, and associated support staff
- Responsible for capital equipment specification, justification, and budget oversight for welding systems
- Manages training and certification budgets for welding personnel
QualificationsEducation / Certifications:
- One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Certification such as CWI or CWEng preferred
- Additional aerospace-specific welding training/credentials a plus
Experience:
- Minimum 7 years aerospace or regulated-industry welding experience
- Demonstrated experience specifying, installing, or qualifying welding equipment
- Experience building or scaling a welding team or special-process function
- Strong knowledge of AWS D17.1, AS9100, NADCAP, and aerospace materials (titanium, nickel alloys, aluminum)
Skills & Technology Used:
- Expertise in welding processes (GTAW required; laser, EBW, and automated systems preferred)
- Ability to read engineering drawings, weld symbols, and process specs
- Strong troubleshooting and metallurgical fundamentals
- Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing, PFMEA, and process control tools
- Excellent communication and team-leadership skills
Security Clearance & Other Requirements:
- Ability to access systems with information restricted to U.S. citizens per federal contract requirements is required.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance.
