Hatch is seeking a Vision and AI Applications Engineering Trainee reporting to Business Practices: Equipment Technology group, you will support offices globally working from our Mississauga office location.

You will work with experienced engineers across computer vision, robotics, automation, and software. The role combines hands-on development with laboratory testing and support for field deployment. We welcome applicants finishing or recently graduated from a master's or PhD program whose research, internships, or projects show they can turn ideas into tested systems.

As the successful candidate, you will:

• Develop and test image-processing pipelines, computer vision algorithms, and AI/ML models for inspection, sensing, and automation applications.
• Help connect cameras, 3D sensors, robot interfaces, PLCs, and edge computers to software applications under the guidance of the project team.
• Collect, organize, and assess image and sensor data; support annotation, calibration, synchronization, and model evaluation.
• Build and maintain Python or C++ software components, scripts, and interfaces for data exchange and edge execution.
• Design and run experiments, compare approaches using clear metrics, and document results and limitations.
• Work with robotics, automation, and software engineers to test integrated systems and diagnose issues across hardware and software.
• Support laboratory trials, pilot installations, commissioning, and troubleshooting with experienced team members.
• Document code, interfaces, test procedures, and lessons learned so that solutions can be reused across projects.

You bring to the role:

• A completed or soon-to-be-completed in 2027, a Master's or PhD degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Experience with Python or C++ through research, internships, coursework, or personal projects, with an interest in writing reliable, maintainable code.
• A working foundation in computer vision, image processing, machine learning, robotics, or sensor-based systems.
• Evidence of hands-on problem solving, such as a thesis, capstone, lab prototype, internship, open-source contribution, or deployed project.
• Ability to plan tests, interpret results, troubleshoot systematically, and communicate technical findings clearly.
• Interest in working with physical equipment and collaborating across software, electrical, mechanical, and automation disciplines.

Compensation:

Range: $84,000.00 - $93,000.00

At Hatch, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. In accordance with legislated pay transparency requirements, the expected salary range for this position is based on current market data and aligned with internal pay structures to ensure consistency and fairness.

Your individual compensation within this range will depend on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and location. In addition to base pay, our total rewards package may include performance-based incentives, comprehensive benefits, and other programs designed to support your well-being and growth.
