Full Job Description
Senior Director, Pipeline and Product Communications owns the global communications strategy for ViiV's industry-leading pipeline and portfolio and setting clear priorities for how the company communicates its most important scientific, portfolio and launch milestones. The role reports into the Head of Global Communications and partners closely with regional communications leads for priority assets and launches and positions ViiV as a leader in long-acting HIV innovation. As senior communications business partner to the SVP Head of R&D and SVP Chief Medical Officer, the role provides strategic counsel on reputation, scientific storytelling, disclosure readiness and issues management, translating complex science into meaningful, business-relevant narratives for internal and external audiences.

The role is accountable for integrated strategic communications plans aligned to ViiV's pipeline and portfolio priorities, ensuring consistent, high-impact news flow around data, regulatory milestones, scientific congresses and other key moments. As ViiV prepares for upcoming treatment and prevention launches, this role will steward communications that build momentum, partner with scientific communications on publication planning and data dissemination, differentiate ViiV and stakeholder confidence and contribute to the ambition of becoming the LAI Powerhouse.

This is a senior leadership role requiring strong scientific understanding, credibility with senior stakeholders, strategic judgment and the ability to lead through complexity. The role leads the Pipeline and Product Communications team and works in close partnership with the broader ViiV Global Communications team, ViiV US Communications team, R&D, Medical, GSK Communications, Investor Relations and agency partners. It requires the ability to prioritise, influence and deliver at pace across complex, concurrent projects, while setting the operating model for pipeline and product communications and identifying the moments that matter most for ViiV's reputation, launch readiness and transformation into the LAI Powerhouse.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the global pipeline and product communications strategy, setting priorities, and a clear communications cadence for internal and external communications that showcase ViiV's science and innovation, build confidence in the long-acting portfolio and pipeline, and support the company's transformation into the LAI Powerhouse.
  • Act as senior communications business partner to the SVP Head of R&D and SVP Chief Medical Officer, providing trusted counsel on reputation, disclosure readiness, scientific narrative, issues management and external dynamics, while helping build their profile as a leading voice in HIV R&D and long-acting innovation.
  • Lead communications readiness for upcoming treatment and prevention launches, ensuring clear, integrated launch narratives, milestone planning, stakeholder engagement, executive preparation and internal readiness across R&D, Medical, Commercial, Global Communications and GSK partners.
  • Build and maintain a clear enterprise view of pipeline, portfolio and launch milestones, including clinical data, regulatory decisions, scientific congresses, business development, partnerships and evidence generation, prioritising the strongest opportunities for reputational and business impact.
  • Oversee development of high-quality communications content, including press releases, statements, Q&A, social media, internal stories, leadership materials and launch communications, ensuring all materials amplify ViiV's innovation, portfolio and pipeline story with scientific accuracy, strategic clarity and global/local relevance.
  • Build and maintain a clear enterprise view of pipeline, portfolio and launch milestones, including clinical data, regulatory decisions, scientific congresses, business development, partnerships and evidence generation, prioritising the strongest opportunities for reputational and business impact.
  • Work with the Corporate and Internal Communications Director to develop internal communications that build understanding, belief and pride in ViiV's transformation, helping colleagues understand how the pipeline, portfolio and launch agenda contribute to ViiV's ambition to become the LAI Powerhouse.
  • Translate complex R&D and scientific information into clear, compelling and accessible communications that connect ViiV's science to patient need, community impact, business priorities and future growth.
  • Lead communications planning for key scientific congresses, data moments and external platforms, ensuring activity is aligned to pipeline, launch and portfolio business priorities and maximises share of voice and impact.
  • Prepare senior spokespeople, including the Head of R&D, Chief Medical Officer and other R&D, Medical and Commercial leaders, to tell ViiV's innovation story confidently and consistently to external and internal audiences through clear messaging, Q&A, briefing materials and scenario planning.
  • Partner closely with GSK Communications, Investor Relations and Corporate colleagues to ensure ViiV's science, pipeline and long-acting leadership are represented effectively in the wider GSK story.
  • Monitor and interpret the external environment, including competitor activity, media narratives, scientific trends, stakeholder expectations and potential issues, to inform communications strategy, provide real-time counsel and identify risks and opportunities.
  • Lead, coach and prioritise the work of the Pipeline and Product Communications team, ensuring resource is focused on the highest-impact business priorities and that the team works effectively with agency and matrix partners.
  • Develop and maintain best practice across Pipeline and Product Communications, including launch communications planning, measurement, governance, stakeholder engagement, issues preparedness, escalation protocols and content development.
  • Establish clear objectives, measurable KPIs and a regular performance rhythm for pipeline and product communications, using insights and performance data to optimise plans, demonstrate value and ensure accountability for impact.
  • Manage product and pipeline communications budgets responsibly and ensure effective agency management, prioritisation and delivery.
  • Lead with agility, resilience and sound judgment, adapting quickly to evolving business needs, launch timelines, data milestones and issues, while ensuring disciplined decision-making and coordinated execution during high-pressure moments.
