The Developer Workbench will bring together core engineering products, developer tools, AI-assisted coding capabilities, development environments, testing workflows, deployment pipelines, cloud development experiences, and developer insights into one cohesive platform. This leader will be accountable for transforming the Workbench from a set of disconnected tools and services into a productized developer experience that improves productivity, accelerates onboarding, increases adoption of modern engineering capabilities, and strengthens governance across the software development lifecycle.

This is a senior engineering leadership role for a builder, integrator, and enterprise change leader who can operate across product, engineering, architecture, security, finance, learning, and senior technology leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the Developer Workbench Engineering Strategy
• Define and execute the engineering strategy for the Developer Workbench.
• Establish the technical architecture, operating model, and roadmap for a unified developer platform.
• Integrate developer tooling, engineering workflows, quality systems, AI coding capabilities, cloud and local development environments, and developer insights into a seamless end-to-end experience.
• Ensure the platform is scalable, secure, reliable, measurable, and aligned with enterprise engineering standards.
Build a Unified Developer Experience
• Create a frictionless developer journey from onboarding through coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Reduce manual setup, inconsistent tooling, and duplicated effort across engineering teams.
• Partner with product teams to integrate capabilities across the MSBX product suite, and other engineering platforms.
• Establish feedback mechanisms to continuously understand developer needs and improve the overall experience.

Drive AI-Native Engineering Capabilities
• Lead the adoption and integration of AI-assisted software engineering tools and agentic development capabilities.
• Define governance, security, usage, enablement, and measurement models for AI coding assistants.
• Partner with security, risk, compliance, and architecture teams to ensure responsible and secure use of AI across the software development lifecycle.
• Measure the effectiveness of AI-enabled development through adoption, productivity, quality, and developer satisfaction metrics.

Own Tooling Governance and Platform Stewardship
• Establish a governance model for developer tools.
• Manage tooling standards, lifecycle, versioning, adoption, enablement, and rationalization.
• Ensure that developer tools are maintained, current, secure, and consistently supported.
• Partner with finance and technology leaders to provide transparency into tool value, adoption, cost, and productivity impact.

Build and Lead a High-Performing Engineering Organization
• Recruit, develop, and lead a team of engineers, architects, platform specialists, technical program leaders, and developer experience professionals.
• Build a culture of customer obsession, engineering excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure the team operates as a product organization with clear priorities, measurable outcomes, and strong stakeholder engagement.
• Develop talent and leadership capacity within the MSBX organization.

Partner Across the Enterprise
• Collaborate with CTOs, engineering leaders, product leaders, security, architecture, operations, finance, and learning teams.
• Influence senior stakeholders and align investment decisions with business value.
• Communicate strategy, progress, risks, and outcomes to executive audiences.
• Represent the Developer Workbench as a strategic enabler of modern software engineering at Mastercard.

Required Qualifications
• 15+ years of progressive software engineering experience.
• 8+ years of experience leading large engineering teams or platform engineering organizations.
• Proven experience building or scaling developer platforms, internal engineering platforms, DevEx organizations, cloud platforms, DevOps platforms, or engineering productivity functions.
• Strong understanding of modern software development practices, CI/CD, cloud-native architecture, platform engineering, developer tooling, quality engineering, and secure software delivery.
• Experience leading complex enterprise technology transformations in a matrixed environment.
• Demonstrated ability to influence senior executives and align cross-functional stakeholders.
• Strong track record of building high-performing teams and developing engineering leaders.
• Experience using data, telemetry, and metrics to improve engineering productivity and platform adoption.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with AI-assisted software development tools and emerging agentic engineering workflows.
• Experience integrating developer tools across IDEs, source control, CI/CD, testing, deployment, observability, and cloud environments.
• Background in developer experience, platform engineering, SRE, DevOps, cloud engineering, or engineering enablement.
• Experience supporting large-scale developer communities in a global enterprise.
• Familiarity with engineering productivity measurement, developer satisfaction metrics, and platform adoption frameworks.
• Experience managing tooling governance, vendor platforms, and enterprise-wide technology standards.
