Unit Manager - RN to oversee the daily clinical operations of a
post-acute mixed long-term care unit. The Unit Manager will provide strong nursing leadership, ensure high-quality resident care, support and develop nursing staff, and maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and facility regulations.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on nursing leader with strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and previous experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care environment.
Duties & Responsibilities- Oversee the daily clinical operations of the assigned nursing unit.
- Provide leadership and supervision to RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and other nursing staff.
- Ensure residents receive individualized, high-quality nursing care based on their clinical needs and care plans.
- Monitor resident conditions and ensure timely assessment, intervention, and follow-up.
- Review and oversee completion of assessments, care plans, documentation, and required clinical records.
- Participate in care plan meetings and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to address resident needs.
- Conduct regular rounds to monitor resident care, safety, and overall unit performance.
- Monitor clinical outcomes, quality measures, infection prevention practices, and other nursing performance indicators.
- Ensure compliance with CMS, IDPH, facility policies, and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, and coordination of post-acute services.
- Assist with staffing, assignments, and maintaining appropriate nursing coverage.
- Provide ongoing coaching, education, and support to nursing staff.
- Address employee performance and attendance concerns in collaboration with facility leadership and Human Resources.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and assist with incident investigations and follow-up.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation.
- Promote a positive, professional, and resident-centered environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing or Administrator.
Qualifications- Current Illinois RN license in good standing.
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience; skilled nursing, long-term care, or post-acute experience preferred.
- Previous nursing leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of clinical practices, long-term care standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with electronic medical records; PointClickCare experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively lead, coach, and motivate nursing staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively with residents, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Strong commitment to quality resident care and clinical excellence.
