Job Description

We are seeking an Underwriter to join our Environmental team to be based in either our New York, NY, Berkeley Heights, NJ, or Alpharetta, GA offices. As a member of the Environmental underwriting team, you will be responsible for generating new business, growing and maintaining key broker and client relationships and overseeing a profitable portfolio of business. This position will be part of a vibrant, collaborative team of technical production underwriters. The role will report to Senior Vice President of Environmental.

RESPONIBILITIES:
  • Maintain and develop the Environmental book of business which mainly consists of Contractors Pollution and Professional Liability (CPPL) business.
  • Underwriting experience with Owners Protective Professional Indemnity (OPPI), Site pollution and/or environmental casualty products is of value but not required
  • Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity.
  • Provide leadership and lead day-to-day underwriting activities for Environmental team to achieve the Company's goals and ensure efficient and effective support for underwriting
  • Maintain and improve upon environmental insurance guidelines and products
  • Establish and maintain broker and client relationships, which includes travel for in-person meetings, conferences, and events
  • Ability to determine the use of internally generated data and 3rd party data to improve the underwriter productivity of the group and the broker experience.
  • Interact closely and effectively with other product line underwriters and regional managers to execute cross-sell strategies
  • Liaise with actuarial, claims, compliance, legal, communications and distribution teams to consistently be informed on the overall goals of the company


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum of a combination of 1-3 years of professional and/or environmental underwriting experience
  • Existing regional broker relationships and/or proven ability to develop same.
  • Strong underwriting acumen and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Superior leadership, organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to quickly analyze problems, draw relevant conclusions and devise appropriate courses of action with minimal guidance
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, promote teamwork and fact-based decision-making
  • Experience in developing and executing a business plan to meet budget goals
  • Willingness to travel and meet brokers, insureds, reinsures, employees and stakeholders in the business
  • An energetic, entrepreneurial attitude
  • Ability to work onsite in office a minimum of 4 days a week
