The salary range for this position is $56-$60 hourly. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.

About the Role

The Underground Superintendent is responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable execution of underground utility construction projects. This role provides leadership and oversight for field crews performing underground electric distribution, conduit installation, duct banks, cable placement, directional drilling, trenching, restoration, and related utility construction activities. The Underground Superintendent ensures projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Field Operations

  • Manage and supervise field crews, foremen, subcontractors, and equipment resources on underground utility projects.
  • Provide daily direction and leadership to ensure safe, productive, and quality work performance.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all phases of underground construction activities.
  • Monitor project schedules and adjust manpower, equipment, and resources to meet project objectives.
  • Conduct regular jobsite visits and inspections to verify progress, quality, and compliance.


Safety & Compliance

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture through active leadership and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, company safety policies, client requirements, and industry standards.
  • Conduct job briefings, safety observations, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks before they impact project performance.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.


Project Management Support

  • Collaborate with Project Managers to develop work plans, schedules, and resource forecasts.
  • Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, and project costs.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and construction packages prior to execution.
  • Support estimating efforts by providing field expertise and constructability feedback.
  • Assist with change order identification, documentation, and execution.


Quality Control

  • Ensure all underground construction work meets client specifications and quality standards.
  • Verify proper installation of conduit systems, underground cable, vaults, transformers, switchgear, and associated infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate field documentation, daily reports, production records, and material tracking.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing activities, and project closeout requirements.


Client & Stakeholder Relations

  • Serve as the primary field representative for customers, inspectors, utility personnel, and stakeholders.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and solutions to management and clients.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers and project partners.


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of underground utility construction experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of superintendent, general foreman, or equivalent supervisory experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of underground electric distribution systems, conduit installation, cable placement, directional drilling, trenching, and restoration.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and utility construction safety practices.
  • Experience managing multiple crews, subcontractors, and concurrent projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and utility standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman Lineman certification or related utility certification.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Experience with electric utility distribution construction.
  • Knowledge of utility locating, traffic control, and permitting requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to travel and work extended hours as project demands require.
  • Ability to access active construction sites and uneven terrain.


Work Environment

This position is primarily field-based and routinely exposed to active construction environments, moving equipment, varying weather conditions, and utility infrastructure. Occasional office work is required for planning, reporting, scheduling, and project coordination.
