V2X is seeking an accomplished UAI Lead Engineer to join our Weapon System Integration (WSI) team in Indianapolis, Indiana.ResponsibilitiesThe UAI Lead Engineer is responsible for leading the development, integration, testing, and documentation of software for our Weapon System Integration (WSI) products. This includes architecting and implementing new capabilities, tailoring reusable software components, and integrating software on both virtual machines and target hardware.
As a senior member of the Integrated Product Team (IPT), the engineer participates in and guides the full software lifecycle - requirements analysis, design, implementation, unit testing, integration, and verification. The Senior Software Engineer also works closely with the Software Lead to drive a more robust and reliable product through improved testing, process enhancements, and technical oversight.
In addition to core engineering responsibilities, the UAI Lead Engineer plays a critical role in cross-team coordination and product ownership. This includes owning and managing the software backlog, collaborating with systems engineering to answer software and test-related questions, and ensuring alignment across internal teams. The role also requires close coordination with the Industry Team, participation in customer engagements, and support for on-site integration trips to validate functionality and ensure smooth delivery.
This position demands strong adherence to coding standards, engineering best practices, and disciplined configuration management.
The UAI Lead Engineer is accountable for delivering high-quality, maintainable code while mentoring teammates and fostering continuous improvement across the WSI product line.
The ideal candidate embraces modern software development practices and engineering techniques that accelerate capability delivery, improve mission effectiveness, and enhance team productivity. They have experience developing, integrating, and deploying mission-system software, including avionics interfaces, platform integration layers, weapon employment logic, sensor-driven behaviors, and other WSI-relevant capabilities. We are looking for engineers who enjoy tackling complex, emerging challenges and have a passion for supporting our DoD customers and international partners.
The UAI Lead Engineer provides technical leadership across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and architectural design through implementation, integration, verification, validation, and deployment on operational platforms. The role requires strong communication skills, collaborative problem-solving, and the ability to translate complex mission needs into high-quality, robust software solutions.

- Strong analytical problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to lead complex technical efforts.
- Expertise in embedded or mission-system software development, integration, and test.
- Proficiency in modern software development practices including CI/CD, automated testing, and configuration management.
- Ability to translate mission objectives, operational constraints, and system-level requirements into actionable software requirements.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical decisions, trade-offs, and system behaviors to diverse stakeholders.
- Familiarity with distributed systems, real-time architectures, or edge compute environments commonly used in DoD systems.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and help set technical direction.
Desired Qualifications- Experience serving as a Scrum Master or Agile facilitator.
- Experience supporting onsite customer events, flight tests, or field integration activities.
- Background in avionics, mission systems, or weapon system integration environments.
- Familiarity with cross-organizational collaboration, including working closely with industry partners or subcontractors.
- Experience improving product robustness through test automation, advanced verification methods, or enhanced CI pipelines.
- Experience managing software backlogs or performing product-owner-like responsibilities.
- Strong ability to coordinate across multi-discipline teams including software, systems, test, and integration.
- Experience conducting major design reviews, architecture discussions, and risk-reduction planning.
