Overview

This internship will take place during the summer of 2027

As a Finance MBA Intern, you will work for 12 weeks in the Treasury Team at Microsoft. This team is responsible for the oversight of Microsoft's $100+ billion in financial assets, global cash and bank account infrastructure, and supports collection of over 95% of Microsoft's revenue. Treasury also develops and executes funding strategies to support Microsoft's AI and Cloud investments and provides a broad perspective on business risk and strategies to mitigate it. Interns will have the opportunity to work alongside members of the Treasury Team to deliver recommendations on key projects. These projects will provide you with valuable insights into the company, its stakeholders' objectives, internal systems, operating practices, and constraints.

Throughout your internship, you will have the chance to learn about various aspects of the company and its Treasury operations. At the end of your internship, you will have the opportunity to present your work and findings to upper-level finance leaders. This is a great opportunity for MBA students to gain hands-on experience and make meaningful contributions to the company.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the analysis of current and projected cash flows, liquidity positions, funding needs, and capital requirements across Microsoft's global businesses. Support research and analytical projects that inform treasury strategy, capital allocation decisions, and financial planning activities.


  • Assist in the evaluation of capital structure, capital return, investment, and funding strategies through financial modeling, peer benchmarking, and market research. Develop insights on industry trends, macroeconomic developments, and key financial metrics to support decision making.


  • Support initiatives focused on optimizing liquidity, managing financial risks, enhancing banking and payment capabilities, and improving treasury operations. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external financial partners to execute treasury processes and identify opportunities for efficiency and innovation.


  • Analyze economic, financial market, and business data to assess implications for Microsoft's investment portfolio and treasury strategy. Apply quantitative and analytical techniques to evaluate scenarios, model outcomes, and develop recommendations within a risk and return framework.


  • Synthesize complex financial information into clear, actionable insights and communicate findings through executive-ready presentations, reports, and recommendations for treasury leadership and cross-functional partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.


  • Must have at least 1 semester/term remaining following the completion of the internship.


  • 3+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, , finance, or related field OR equivalent experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Treasury, or banking within a global organization


  • Proven track record of working in large-scale global organizations


  • Extensive corporate finance experience, including financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting


The base pay range for this internship is USD $5,190.00 - $10,250.00 per month. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $6,810.00 - $11,330.00 per month.
