WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:The Alaska Statewide 911 & Interoperability Coordinator is the lead for emergency communications and interoperability across Alaska. This position shapes the technological environment for 911 services, ensures seamless communication among public safety agencies, and advances statewide interoperability initiatives. The Coordinator provides technical consulting, maintains the State 911 Plan and PSAP inventory, supports Next Generation 911 (NG911) implementation, and integrates 911 and interoperability services into state and local emergency response plans.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
We are seeking a candidate who can lead statewide efforts to strengthen interoperable public safety communications across Alaska. The ideal individual brings practical knowledge of radio systems, 911 operations, and broadband technologies; builds strong, collaborative relationships with local, state, tribal, and federal partners; and coordinates effectively to support shared communications goals. This position requires someone who can manage projects and grant-funded initiatives, ensuring compliance and timely progress, while also identifying communications risks and supporting continuity and preparedness for emergencies and major incidents statewide.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of administrative, technical, or professional experience which demonstrates a good knowledge of the functional and operational requirements and capabilities in one or more types of telecommunications fields such as telephone systems engineering, broadcasting, satellite systems, telecommunications regulations, data communications, or telecommunications management, and four years of education in electronic engineering, physics, industrial engineering, communications, public utilities or a closely related field above the high school level.

Additional qualifying experience may substitute year-for-year for the required education.
